TheWEEEmarkappliesonlytocountrieswithintheEuropeanUnion(EU)
andNorway.AppliancesarelabeledinaccordancewithEuropeanDirective
2002/96/ECconcerningwasteelectricalandelectronicequipment(WEEE).
TheDirectivedeterminestheframeworkforthereturnandrecyclingofused
appliancesasapplicablethroughouttheEuropeanUnion.Thislabelisappliedto
variousproductstoindicatethattheproductisnottobethrownaway,butrather
reclaimeduponendoflifeperthisDirective.
Usersofelectricalandelectronicequipment(EEE)withtheWEEEmarkingper
AnnexIVoftheWEEEDirectivemustnotdisposeofendoflifeEEEasunsorted
municipalwaste,butusethecollectionframeworkavailabletothemforthereturn,
recycle,recoveryofWEEEandminimizeanypotentialeffectsofEEEonthe
environmentandhumanhealthduetothepresenceofhazardoussubstances.
