Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoreplacethesystemboard.
CAUTION:
Theheatsinkandmicroprocessormightbeveryhot.Turnoffthecomputerandwait
threetoveminutestoletthecomputercoolbeforeopeningthecomputercover.
Toreplacethesystemboard:
1.Openthecomputercover.See“Openingthecomputercover”onpage68.
2.Pivotthedrivebayassemblyupwardtogainaccesstothesystemboard.
3.Removetheharddiskdrive.See“Replacingtheharddiskdrive”onpage84.
4.RemoveallmemorymodulesandPCIcardsthatarecurrentlyinstalled.See“Replacingamemory
module”onpage73and“ReplacingaPCIcard”onpage74.
5.Carefullytakenoteofthelocationofallcableconnectionsonthesystemboardanddisconnectallthe
cables.See“Locatingpartsonthesystemboard”onpage70.
6.Removetheheatsinkandfanassemblyfromthefailingsystemboard.See“Replacingtheheatsink”
onpage78.
7.Carefullyslidethesystemboardsothatitcanbereleasedfromthefourmountingstudsthatsecure
thesystemboardinplace.
8.Liftthesystemboardoutofthechassis.
9.Removethemicroprocessorfromthefailingsystemboardandinstallitonthenewsystemboard.

10.Installthenewsystemboardintothechassisbyaligningthefourmountingstudsinthechassiswith
thecorrespondingholesonthenewsystemboard,andthencarefullyslidethenewsystemboardinto

11.Installallmemorymodulesandadaptercardsremovedfromthefailingsystemboardonthenew
systemboard.
12.Installtheheatsinkandfanassemblyandconnecttheheatsinkandfanassemblycabletothenew
