• Install the air baffle (see “Install the air baffle” on page 51).
• Connect the fan cables (see
“Install a fan” on page 65).
After you install the system board, complete the following steps:
1. Install the top cover onto the server (see
“Install the top cover” on page 141).
2. Install the node if needed (see
“Install a node” on page 101).
3. Reconnect power cords and all external cables.
4. Reconfigure the server and reset the system date and time.
5. Update the machine type and serial number with new vital product data (VPD). Use the Lenovo XClarity
Provisioning Manager to update the machine type and serial number. See “Update the machine type
and serial number” on page 134
.
Note: If the node is to be installed in an E1 Enclosure (1U 2-node), change the vital product data (VPD)
for proper operation. See
“Change the VPD for E1 Enclosure configuration (trained technician only)” on
page 139
.
6. If the server has SED installed, recover the SED AK. See Backup the Self Encryption Drive Authentication
Key (SED AK) in Setup Guide for more details.
7. Recover the FoD key if needed.
8. Update the public key. See the Update Key section of

9. For ThinkSystem SE350 with Security Pack, re-activate the system. See “Activate the system” in the
ThinkSystem SE350 Setup Guide for more information.

Update the machine type and serial number
After the system board is replaced by trained service technicians, the machine type and serial number must
be updated.
There are two methods available to update the machine type and serial number:
• From Lenovo XClarity Provisioning Manager
To update the machine type and serial number from Lenovo XClarity Provisioning Manager:
1. Start the server and press the key according to the on-screen instructions to display the Lenovo
XClarity Provisioning Manager interface.
2. If the power-on Administrator password is required, enter the password.
3. From the System Summary page, click Update VPD.
4. Update the machine type and serial number.
• From Lenovo XClarity Essentials OneCLI
Lenovo XClarity Essentials OneCLI sets the machine type and serial number in the Lenovo XClarity
Controller. Select one of the following methods to access the Lenovo XClarity Controller and set the
machine type and serial number:
– Operate from the target system, such as LAN or keyboard console style (KCS) access
– Remote access to the target system (TCP/IP based)
To update the machine type and serial number from Lenovo XClarity Essentials OneCLI:
1. Download and install Lenovo XClarity Essentials OneCLI.
