1. Read the safety information and installation guidelines (see “Safety” on page iii and “Installation
Guidelines” on page 59).
2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see
“Power off the server” on page 10).
3. If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack.
4. Remove the top cover (see “Remove the top cover” on page 146).
To remove the PCIe expansion tray, complete the following steps:

Step 1. Remove all the 4U PCIe riser assemblies and the 4U PCIe riser assembly fillers that are installed in
the PCIe expansion tray (see “Remove a 4U PCIe riser assembly” on page 152).
Step 2. Grasp the handle of the PCIe expansion tray; then, rotate it upward to the vertical position.
Step 3. Grasp the handle with one of your hands, with the other hand grasping the 4U PCIe expansion tray
lift point; then, lift the tray out of the server.
If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use
any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
