Before installing a 4U PCIe riser assembly:
1. Read the safety information and installation guidelines (see “Safety” on page iii and “Installation
Guidelines” on page 59).
To install a 4U PCIe riser assembly, complete the following steps:

Step 1. Remove the PCIe expansion tray (see “Remove the PCIe expansion tray” on page 149) to install the
PCIe connector guide.

Step 2. Reinstall the PCIe expansion tray (see “Install the PCIe expansion tray” on page 151) and remove
the 4U PCIe riser assembly fillers if any are installed.
Step 3. Align the 4U PCIe riser assembly with the rear chassis and the guide pins on the side of the PCIe
expansion tray; then, insert the 4U PCIe riser assembly into the slot.
Step 4. Rotate the lever downward until it clicks. Make sure the 4U PCIe riser assembly is fully seated into
the PCIe expansion tray.
Note: To maintain proper system cooling, if only one 4U PCIe riser assembly is installed, the 4U
PCIe riser assembly filler must be installed to operate the server.
