Function Description:
The Glow Rings are an indoor lighting system for plants, designed to integrate with the Lettuce Grow Farmstand. They provide artificial light necessary for plant growth, especially in indoor environments where natural light may be insufficient. The system is modular, allowing for different configurations based on the number of Glow Rings installed, which correlates with the size of the Farmstand (e.g., 1-ring, 2-ring, 4-ring boxes, and configurations for 2-4, 5, or 6 Glow Rings). The Glow Rings are cabled and connect to a power supply, and their operation is controlled by a timer. The system also interacts with the Farmstand's watering cycle, adjusting watering frequency based on whether the Glow Rings are on or off.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Components: The system includes Dual-Cabled Glow Rings, a Top Single-Cabled Glow Ring, Pipe Couplers, Glow Ring Pipe Extensions, a Power Supply, and a Timer.
- Modularity: Available in 1-ring, 2-ring, and 4-ring box configurations.
- Power Supply: The power supply can get hot to the touch; it's recommended to keep it away from direct sunlight, certain materials (linoleum, countertops, carpet), and children. A cord storage box is suggested for safety.
- Cable Connections: Dual-cabled rings have two ends that screw together. Short connector cords should always connect to the lower ring, and longer connector cords should thread up to the ring above. The top single-cabled ring connects to the long cable from the ring below. Unconnected cables can cause damage to the device.
- Pipe Extensions and Couplers: These are needed for larger Farmstands (24-, 30-, and 36-plant configurations). A 36-plant Farmstand requires two pipe extensions and two couplers.
- Timer Settings (Light Cycle):
- 2-4 Glow Rings: 14 hours ON (Day), 10 hours OFF (Night)
- 5 Glow Rings: 15 hours ON (Day), 9 hours OFF (Night)
- 6 Glow Rings: 17 hours ON (Day), 7 hours OFF (Night)
- The timer allows users to set the "daytime" for their plants, with a 14-hour light cycle displayed as an example on the dark side of the dial. Each notch on the timer represents 15 minutes.
- Watering Cycle Timer Settings (Indoor):
- Lights ON (Day): 15 minutes ON, 45 minutes OFF
- Lights OFF (Night): 15 minutes ON, 120 minutes OFF
- The watering cycle changes based on whether the Glow Rings are on or off, as seedlings require different amounts of water/nutrients.
- Materials: The packaging is made from 100% recycled and recyclable paper.
Usage Features:
- Indoor Use: Designed specifically for indoor Farmstands. It's recommended to place the Farmstand on a mat to prevent water dripping onto the floor.
- Assembly Process:
- Preparation: Unplug the Farmstand (if existing), remove the lid, diffuser cap, fill port cap, gasket, and all modules except the first one. For new Farmstands, assemble according to the Farmstand Assembly guide and add one module.
- Cable Routing: Pass the power supply cord through the fill port opening and up through the center module hole, ensuring slack in the cord.
- Connecting Rings: Attach the first dual-cabled Glow Ring to the top of the first module. Connect the ring cable to the power supply cable, screwing the cap until it meets the arrow for a tight, water-damage-protected connection.
- Modular Assembly: For subsequent modules, feed the longer, non-connected Glow Ring cable up through the center hole before attaching the module. Repeat this process for each dual-cabled Glow Ring and module.
- Top Ring: Attach the single-cabled Glow Ring to the top module and connect the long cable from the ring below to its single cable connection.
- Pipe Extensions: For larger Farmstands, place the small pipe extender and coupler at the top of the pipe stack, closest to the diffuser.
- Final Steps: Put the diffuser cap on, then the lid. Run the power supply cord through the second hole in the fill port gasket (remove temporary plug if present), ensuring enough cord slack.
- Timer Synchronization: It's crucial to sync both the Glow Rings timer and the water pump timer to the same time of day.
- Customizable Light Cycle: Users can choose when their plants' "daytime" occurs, allowing for flexibility to minimize light intrusion during the user's daytime.
- Adjustable Timer Settings: The provided timer settings are recommended starting points and may need adjustment based on natural light, temperature, and Farmstand location.
Maintenance Features:
- Cable Connection Integrity: Ensuring tight connections for ring cables to the power supply cable is important for protection against water damage and the longevity of the lights.
- Gasket Placement: When locking the gasket into place, ensure sufficient cord slack. If the Farmstand gasket does not have two holes, contact customer support for a replacement.
- Power Supply Safety: Due to the power supply getting hot, it should be kept away from sensitive materials and children. A cord storage box is recommended.
