Overview

The LevelOne IGP-1031 is a robust 10-port full gigabit industrial unmanaged Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch, designed to provide reliable network connectivity in demanding environments. This switch is engineered to operate across a wide temperature range, from -40°C to 75°C, making it suitable for deployment in harsh industrial settings where extreme temperatures are common. Its unmanaged nature simplifies installation and operation, as it does not require complex configuration, allowing for plug-and-play functionality.

The primary function of the IGP-1031 is to provide both data and power to connected devices over standard Ethernet cables, eliminating the need for separate power outlets for each device. This capability is particularly beneficial for IP cameras, IP phones, and wireless access points (APs) in locations where power infrastructure is limited or difficult to install. The switch features eight 10/100/1000M PoE+ ports, which conform to the IEEE 802.3af/at standard, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of PoE-powered devices (PDs). Each of these ports can deliver sufficient power to operate high-power devices, simplifying network deployment and reducing cabling complexity. In addition to the PoE ports, the IGP-1031 is equipped with two 1000M SFP (Small Form-Factor Pluggable) slots. These SFP ports provide flexible uplink options, allowing for long-distance fiber optic connections to the core network, which is crucial for extending network reach beyond the limitations of copper cabling, especially in large industrial facilities or campus environments.

One of the key usage features of the IGP-1031 is its adaptability to various network environments through its two distinct operating modes: Default and VLAN. In Default mode, the switch operates as a standard unmanaged switch, allowing all ports to communicate freely with each other. This mode is ideal for general network setups where full connectivity between all connected devices is desired. The VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) mode, on the other hand, offers enhanced network segmentation and security. In VLAN mode, ports 1 through 8 are isolated from each other, meaning devices connected to these ports cannot directly communicate with one another. Instead, they can only communicate with the uplink port. This isolation helps to restrain network storms, improve network performance by reducing broadcast traffic, and enhance security by preventing unauthorized access between different segments of the network. This flexibility allows network administrators to choose the most appropriate mode based on their specific application requirements, whether it's for simple connectivity or for more secure and efficient network management.

The IGP-1031 is designed with several maintenance features that significantly reduce the operational burden and improve network reliability, particularly in remote or critical applications. A standout feature is the PoE Auto-check function. This intelligent function is specifically engineered to address the common problem of PoE-powered devices freezing or becoming unresponsive. When the switch detects a frozen PD device, it can automatically restart the power output of the PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) port to which the device is connected, effectively rebooting the PD device. This automated recovery mechanism greatly reduces the need for manual intervention, minimizing downtime and maintenance costs, especially in large-scale deployments like security network video monitoring systems where numerous cameras might be deployed across a wide area. This proactive approach to device management ensures continuous operation of critical equipment without constant human oversight.

Furthermore, the switch incorporates robust protection mechanisms to ensure its durability and long-term reliability in harsh industrial settings. It supports 6KV surge protection, which safeguards the device against electrical surges that can occur due to lightning strikes or power fluctuations, a common concern in outdoor or industrial installations. Additionally, it features 8KV contact and 15KV air ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protection, adhering to the IEC61000-4-2 standard. These ESD protections prevent damage from electrostatic discharges that can occur during handling or in dry environments, ensuring the integrity of the electronic components. The inclusion of a relay alarm system is another critical maintenance feature. This system provides alerts for power off, network broken, or PoE off conditions, allowing network administrators to quickly identify and address issues, thereby minimizing service interruptions. This comprehensive suite of protection and alarm features makes the IGP-1031 a highly resilient and low-maintenance solution for industrial network infrastructure.

The physical design of the IGP-1031 also contributes to its ease of use and maintenance. It supports multiple installation methods, including wall hanging, desktop placement, and DIN-rail mounting. DIN-rail mounting is particularly advantageous in industrial control cabinets, offering a secure and space-efficient installation option. The compact and durable metal casing ensures that the switch can withstand the rigors of industrial environments. The front panel includes clear LED indicators for power, uplink activity (Link/Act for SFP ports), and downlink activity (Link/Act and PoE status for RJ45 ports). These indicators provide at-a-glance status updates, allowing for quick visual diagnostics of network and power connectivity. The back panel features the DC power input terminals, a grounding terminal, and DIP switches for configuring the Working Mode (Default/VLAN) and enabling/disabling the PoE Auto-Check function. The grounding terminal is crucial for lightning protection, and users are advised to use a cable better than 20# to connect it to ground, emphasizing the importance of proper grounding for safety and device longevity. Overall, the IGP-1031 is a well-rounded industrial switch designed for reliability, ease of deployment, and minimal maintenance in challenging operational environments.
