Did you know?
A constellation is a group
of stars that make an imaginary
shape in the night sky. They may
take the shape of an animal, a
mythological creature, people, or an
object such as a microscope, a compass, or
a crown!
There are a total of 88 “official” constellations, 48
of
which were recorded by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy
around 150 AD! Can you recognize the lion (Leo), the horse
(Pegasus), the dog (Canis Major) or the giraffe (Camelopardalis)?
Depending on where you live on Earth and the time o
f the year,
different constellations can be observed. Many of th
em are unique to the
northern or southern hemisphere. Can you tell which
ones are visible in your backyard?
