7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
7
When trouble arises
Take care not to damage the vehicle body.
2 Enter the vehicle being towed and
start the hybrid system.
If the hybrid system does not start, turn the
power switch to ON.
3 Put the four-wheel drive control
switch in “H4”. (The center differ-
ential is unlocked.)
4 Change the vehicle height to N
(standard) mode and end the vehi-
cle height operation. (P.444)
5 Shift the shift position to N and
release the parking brake.
Turn automatic mode off. (P.216)
■ While towing
If the hybrid system is off, the power assist
for the brakes and steering will not function,
making steering and braking more difficult.
■ If the cables or chains touch the bumper
If the cables or chains touch the bumper
due to the angle at which the cables or
chains are hanging, remove the cover (if
equipped) on the bumper.
• Remove the bolt, pull the cover toward
you, and then detach the 2 claws.
Observe the following precautions. Fail-
ure to do so may result in death or seri-
ous injury.
■ While towing
● When towing using cables or chains,
avoid sudden starts, etc. which place
excessive stress on the towing hook,
cables or chains. The towing hook,
cables or chains may become dam-
aged, broken debris may hit people,
and cause serious damage.
● Make sure to turn off the AHC. Other-
wise, the vehicle height may change
and part of your body may be caught
under the vehicle, possibly causing
injury. (P.444)
● Do not perform any of the following as
doing so may cause the parking lock
mechanism to engage, locking the all
wheels and possibly leading to an acci-
dent resulting in death or serious
injury:
• Unfasten the driver’s seat belt and
open the driver’s door.
• Turn the power switch off.
