3.6 Connect the cooling
Operating environment and cooling
Air or water cooling is required for the pumps. Water cooling is required if any
one of these conditions prevails:
TURBOVAC
151, 151 C, 361,
361 C
Bakeout at ambient temperature > 35 °C
High-vacuum pressure > 10

mbar
Ambient temperature 45 - 55 °C
600 C
Bakeout at ambient temperature > 35 °C
High-vacuum pressure > 10

Air cooling
When installing the air-cooled TURBOVAC, ensure that there is an unrestrict-
ed flow of air to the fan.
Cooling water specifications
Inlet pressure 3 to 7 bar absolute
Cooling water requirement, inlet temperature see Fig. 3.5
Water Quality
In order to ensure long trouble-free operation the cooling water must not
contain any oils, greases and suspended solids. Moreover, we recommend
compliance with the following limit values:
Appearance Clear, free of oils and greases
Suspended matter < 250 mg/l
Particle size < 150 µm
Electrical conductivity < 700 µS/cm
pH value 7.0 to 9.0
Total hardness (total alkaline earths) < 8 °dH
Aggressive carbon dioxide None, not detectable
Chloride < 100 mg/l
Sulphates < 150 mg/l
Nitrate 50 mg/l
Iron < 0.2 mg/l
Manganese < 0.1 mg/l
Ammonium < 1.0 mg/l
Free chlorine < 0.2 mg/l
