What to do if humidity levels are too high with Lifebreath Test Equipment, causing condensation on windows?
    • H
      Heather RiceAug 6, 2025
If you notice high humidity and condensation, it could be due to several reasons. The dehumidistat might be set too high, or the ERV may not be suitable for areas with hot tubs or indoor pools. Consider covering pools and hot tubs when not in use. Lifestyle factors, such as drying clothes indoors or storing firewood inside, can also contribute. Ensure crawl spaces are vented and have a vapor barrier. Properly size washroom ducts and use bathroom fans to remove moisture. While some condensation may occur during seasonal changes, increasing the ERV speed can help. Also, set dehumidistat lower.

How to fix poor airflow in my Lifebreath 170 ERVD?
    • W
      wilsonricardoAug 10, 2025
Poor airflow can result from several issues: a plugged mesh on the outside hood, clogged filters, a blocked core, closed or blocked house grilles, closed dampers (if installed), poor power supply, ductwork restrictions, incorrect speed control settings, or an improperly balanced ERV airflow. To resolve this, clean exterior hoods or vents, remove and clean the filter and core, check and open grilles, open and adjust dampers, have an electrician check the supply voltage, inspect duct installation, increase the ERV speed, and have a contractor balance the ERV.

Why does the supply air from my Lifebreath 170 ERVD Test Equipment feel cold?
    • J
      johndelgadoAug 15, 2025
Cold supply air can be caused by poor placement of supply grilles, which may irritate occupants, or extremely cold outdoor temperatures. Consider relocating grilles higher on walls or under baseboards, or installing ceiling-mounted diffusers to avoid direct airflow on occupants. Reducing the ERV supply speed can also help. A small duct heater (1 kW) could be used to temper the supply air. Ensure furniture or closed doors aren't restricting air movement. If the supply air is ducted into the furnace return, the furnace fan may need to run continuously to distribute ventilation air comfortably.

What to do if my Lifebreath Test Equipment dehumidistat is not operating?
    • A
      amanda54Aug 19, 2025
If the dehumidistat isn't working, it could be due to several reasons. If the outdoor temperature is above 15°C (59°F), the dehumidistat functions normally. Check for improper low voltage connections or external low voltage shorts caused by staples or nails. Also, verify that the dehumidistat isn't set to OFF and ensure the correct terminals are used. Check external wiring for shorts and set the dehumidistat to the desired setting.

Why are humidity levels too low with my Lifebreath Test Equipment?
    • J
      James AlvaradoAug 23, 2025
Low humidity levels can be attributed to a dehumidistat control set too low, an ERV blower speed that is too high, lifestyle of occupants, or improperly balanced ERV airflows. Try setting the dehumidistat higher, decreasing the ERV blower speed. You may need to add humidity using humidifiers. Have a contractor balance ERV airflows.

Why are my Lifebreath 170 ERVD Test Equipment ERV and/or ducts frosting up?
    • P
      Pamela ScottAug 28, 2025
If your ERV and/or ducts are frosting up, it could be due to improperly balanced ERV airflows or a malfunction of the ERV defrost system. To address this, have an HVAC contractor balance the ERV and ensure the damper defrost is operating during self-test.

How to prevent condensation or ice buildup in the insulated duct of my Lifebreath Test Equipment?
    • T
      turnerphyllisAug 31, 2025
Condensation or ice buildup in the insulated duct can occur due to an incomplete vapor barrier around the insulated duct, or a hole or tear in the outer duct covering. To resolve this, tape and seal all joints and tape any holes or tears in the outer duct cover, ensuring the vapor barrier is completely sealed.
