C
CAT 5
(Universal term) - Short for ‘Category 5’ - a type of 8-way cable, which is used in a Knekt system to inter-
connect between rooms, or devices within rooms - used more generally in telecommunications applications.
There are other types of cable, which could technically be used in Knekt, but CAT 5 is recommended.
Installers who used inferior cables often ran into problems with interference from mains cables, cookers etc
affecting the function of the system. See also Twisted Pair.
Centrik
Linn centre channel speaker for AV system. There have been two versions:
The first was only available for a short period of time, it was then succeeded by the AV5120 speaker.
Although the AV5120 & Centrik looked very similar, they have different sound characteristics. The Centrik
was very similar in design to the Keilidh, and can use the Keilidh Aktiv cards etc, but the AV5120 cannot - it
has it’s own specifically designed Aktiv cards.
A second version of the Centrik was introduced – only the name and the fact that they are Centre channel
speakers are common to both versions. The new Centrik is a very low profile design, sleek and flat – the
shape and build are designed to support a TV if required, to provide convenient siting for the speaker.
CD12
Short for Linn Sondek CD12. Our top-of-the-range CD player. Introduced 1998. Includes the patented ‘Smart
Drawer’, which allows the unit to be controlled without using any buttons etc by nudging the drawer front.
Chip
