WARNING: A front facing
passenger (child or adult) must
never sit on the passenger seat if
the passenger airbag is disabled.
Occupant Classification Sensor
The Occupant Classification Sensor
(OCS) is designed to meet the
regulatory requirements of Federal
Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS)
208 and is designed to disable (will
not inflate) the passenger’s side front
airbag under certain conditions.
WARNING: A front facing
passenger (child or adult) must
never sit on the passenger seat
if the passenger airbag is disabled.
The occupant classification sensor
system is fitted within the passenger
seat and seatbelt and is designed to
detect a properly seated occupant,
classifying the passenger types into
one of 2 groups:
Group 1 - Passenger airbag disabled
(will not inflate) in the event of a
collision, because the occupant
classification sensor system detects
that:
– The passenger seat is empty or has
small/medium objects placed on the
cushion.
– The passenger seat is being used by
a baby seated in a suitable, correctly
fitted child restraint system (such as
forward/rearward-facing child seat).
Group 2 - Passenger airbag enabled
(may inflate) in the event of a collision,
because the occupant classification
sensor system detects that:
– The passenger seat is being used by
a person weighing more than 110 lb
(50kg).
