Overview

This document provides a comprehensive overview of the MACC NTM-S 315 and NTS 315 cutting-off machines with circular blades, designed for cutting bars, structural steel, and ferrous metal pipes. The manual emphasizes safe operation, proper installation, and maintenance procedures to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the machine.

Function Description

The MACC NTM-S 315 and NTS 315 are cutting-off machines equipped with a circular blade, specifically engineered for precision cutting of various metal profiles. The machine's primary function is to provide efficient and accurate cuts on bars, structural steel, and ferrous metal pipes. It is strictly forbidden to use the machine for cutting other materials, as this could lead to damage to the machine and pose safety risks to the operator. The machine is designed for use with cutting fluid to ensure smooth operation and prolong blade life.

The machine incorporates a micro-lubrication system, and if installed, the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as an airways protection mask, is mandatory. The work area must be well-ventilated to ensure operator safety. The control panel, available in both NTM 315 and NTS 315 versions, features an emergency stop button, reset and start buttons, and alarm indicators for various operational states, including blade breakage, guard open, and thermal protection.

The machine's operation involves several cycles:

  • Machine Start-Up and Reset: Pressing the "RESET" button moves the blade to its limit switch, and the START LED blinks. If the machine is not in the correct position, the start key LED remains off, and the reset key must be pressed again to move the machine to the working position. During machine operation, the coolant key LED is switched on or off depending on the coolant reservation.
  • Semi-Automatic Cutting Cycle: After carrying out machine reset, the control makes the start LED blink. This cycle only takes place if the bow is already found at its limit switch.
  • Fast Blade Downstroke (Optional): This function is activated using the "arrow down" key below the coolant key, causing the bow to lower faster.
  • Manual Cutting Cycle (Optional): After the handle is pressed, the machine can be used in manual mode. In this mode, it is also possible to reserve coolant control. If the coolant key is kept pressed for 3 seconds, the machine washing function is enabled. The semi-automatic cycle can be reset by means of the reset key.

Emergency indicators include:

  • Blade broken (LED 1 + LED 3)
  • Guard open (LED 2 + LED 3)
  • Blade high and blade low limit switches pressed simultaneously (LED 3)
  • Emergency button pressed (LED 4 + LED 3)
  • Thermal protection 1 (LED 5 + LED 3)
  • Thermal protection 2 (LED 6 + LED 3) When an emergency is triggered, the corresponding LED is activated, and all outputs are deactivated. The LED remains fixed as long as the emergency remains enabled. When the emergency control is reset, the emergency LED is switched off, and the reset key must be pressed.

Important Technical Specifications

The NTM-S 315 and NTS 315 machines are designed and built in compliance with the 2006/42/EEC Machine Directive and subsequent amendments. Key technical data includes:

  • Motor: Three-phase, with power options of 1.3/1.8 kW.
  • Motor Revolutions: Two speeds, 1400-2800 rpm (700-1400 rpm).
  • Circular Blade (Saw):
    • Number of teeth and feed holes according to table.
    • Diameter: 315 mm.
    • Thickness: 2.5 mm.
  • Blade Revolutions per Minute: 33-66 rpm (17-34 rpm).
  • Cutting Angle: 45° right - 60° left.
  • Piece Locking Vice: Max Opening: 160 mm.
  • Coolant Tank Capacity: 5 litres.
  • Machine Weight: NTM315: 270 kg (2640 N); NTS315: 300 kg (2940 N).

The machine's electrical connection requires a differential thermomagnetic switch with characteristics suited to the mains. The power supply voltage must correspond to the voltage on the motor plate. Proper connection of the earth wire is crucial. The rotation of the circular blade must be in the direction indicated by the arrow on the guard.

The machine's cutting capacity varies with the cutting angle and material dimensions. For example, at 90°, it can cut a 70 mm round, 100 mm square, and 135 x 80 mm rectangular profile. At 45° (right or left), the capacities are 70 mm round, 90 x 90 mm square, and 100 x 80 mm rectangular. At 60° (right or left), capacities are 70 mm round, 70 x 70 mm square, and 70 x 80 mm rectangular.

Usage Features

The NTM-S 315 and NTS 315 are intended for cutting bars, structural steel, and ferrous metal pipes. Any other use is strictly prohibited. Before cutting, the bar must be securely locked in the vice. The machine is designed to operate with cutting fluid, and running it without fluid is strictly forbidden.

For safe handling and transportation, a lift truck or bridge crane should be used, with cables fastened to the designated sling positions. The machine must be kept in its normal position and not turned upside down. If the machine is fastened to a pedestal, stability will be greatly reduced, necessitating measures to prevent tipping. All handling and transportation operations must be carried out by trained staff.

Installation requires checking for transport damage. The control lever assembly involves fitting the head lever, connecting electrical terminals to the microswitch, and securing it with screws. The machine must be correctly positioned and securely fastened to a bench or factory floor to minimize vibrations during operation.

Special safety checks are crucial before operation:

  • Ensure the blade is fastened securely and the cutting angle is correct.
  • Check that the material to be cut is adequately secured in the vice.
  • Ensure the coolant is circulating.
  • Adjust the blade downstroke so it is not too long.
  • Position the clamp vice for optimal screen visibility.
  • Before starting a cut, adjust the tilting if necessary, loosen the fastening handle, and turn the rotating plate to the required position.
  • Clamp the piece to be cut by means of the handwheel.
  • Position the blade carefully on the piece to be cut.
  • Ensure the circular blade clamp is in the correct position.
  • If the machine is switched on, or if the emergency push-button has been pressed, switch off the machine, press the RESET button to start the cycle again (in the third case, release the emergency button first).
  • Avoid using damaged or insufficiently sharp cutting blades.

The machine is equipped with a semi-automatic cycle. To set the desired position, move the vice at 4 mm from the part, adjust the head stop so the idle stroke is not too long, and set the lowering of the head by making it perform an idle cycle. To start the cycle, press the START button.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential for the machine's longevity and safe operation. The manual outlines several maintenance aspects:

    • Peak level (Lpeak) (the maximum acceptable value is 140 dB) = 110.5 dB (A).
    • The level of background noise has no influence = 48.5-54.2 dB (A). These data are the result of tests made under the D.Lgs. 277/1991 in the implementation of the directives nr. 80/1107/CEE, nr. 82/605/CEE, nr. 84/477/CEE, and 88/642/CEE.
  • Laying Off and Dismantling:

    • If the machine is to be laid off or left idle for a long period, the following operations must be carried out:
      • Disconnect the machine from the electrical mains.
      • Empty oil from the gear box and cooling liquid from its tank.
      • Clean thoroughly the machine by getting rid of all traces of grease, especially on the worked parts that must be protected with anti-oxidants.
      • Cover the machine with a sheet, preferably not plastic as it can cause rust due to the humidity condensation.
      • Store the machine in a closed, dust-free place.
    • If the machine must be definitively dismantled, its components must be sub-divided for the purpose of a possible recycle of the materials and for the environment safety. The following table is given for your guidance:
      • Steel: Flanges, rollers, pins, spring.
      • Electrical Components: Motors, wiring, push button and control systems (relays, transformer).
      • Light Alloy: Gear boxes, cylinders.
      • Cast Iron: Structural parts.
      • Bronze: Bushings.
      • Plastic and Rubber: Seals.
      • Various: Electrical box.
    • Used oil and materials must be disposed of according to 87/101/EEC Directives and to country specific regulations. The disposal of electrical components is provided for by European Directives UE 2015/863.

The manual also includes detailed exploded views and parts lists for various components, such as the base, vice, column, cutting head, control panel, and bar stop, facilitating identification and ordering of spare parts.
