  If the temperature setting display flashes E31 and the REQUEST FOR HEAT indicator is flashing, it indicates a short in the output driver for the gas valve. Immediately turn the knob on the gas valve to the OFF position. Shut off the gas supply to the heater immediately. Extinguish any open flame immediately and contact qualified service personnel.
