4.7 Gear Selector Lever Positions
4.7.1 P: Park Position
Use this position to park your vehicle, start the engine, warm up the
engine, or stay in a location for an extended length of time. To shift
into any other position, depress the brake pedal with the ignition
switch in the “ON” position.
• Never shift into “P” when the vehicle is moving, or the
transmission will be damaged. Stop the vehicle completely
before shifting into “P”
• To shift from the “P” position to another position, the ignition
switch must be turned to the “ON” position and the brake
pedal should be depressed. Any forcible attempts to move
the selector lever from “P” without these two procedures
may damage the selector lever and transmission
• Do not use the “P” position in place of the parking brake.
Always make sure the shift lever is in “P” position and apply
the parking brake fully
4.7.2 Emergency Release From P Position
To shift from the “P”, the ignition switch must be turned to ON and
the brake pedal must be depressed. If you cannot shift out of “P”
with the ignition switch in ON, and the brake pedal depressed, apply
the parking brake
• Turn the ignition off and apply the parking brake
• Push down the shift lock release button. Then, shift the lever to
the “N” position
• Start the engine, release the parking brake and shift the lever to
the “D” position to drive off
