Congratulations on the purchase of your Mail Boss
®
Metro security mailbox. The Metro is designed
with your security and convenience in mind. This mailbox is constructed of tough, vandal resistant, 16 and 14
gauge galvanized steel. Your Metro mailbox comes with a unique mounting bracket which makes installation
fast and easy. This product is designed to be installed on an exterior wall of your home. If desired the Metro
can also be mounted on a freestanding post or on an appropriate surface such as a fence rail. The Metro
mailbox is designed with a large internal volume so that more than several days of mail can be securely
stored inside. If this mailbox was purchased without a post and you desire to install this mailbox on a new
color matched steel post, you may purchase one online at www.mailboss.com. Posts are shipped via 3-6 day
service but can be rush shipped for an additional fee.
On this insert you will find a list of hardware parts as well as detailed installation instructions.
Installation on wood surfaces is quite simple and requires only a Phillips head screwdriver, a drill, and some
caulk. Installation on a masonry surface requires a Phillips screwdriver, a masonry, drill bit, a drill, 5 masonry
screws or anchors and some caulk. Installation on a metal post requires only a crescent wrench or box wrench.
Installation will be most easily accomplished if you take the time to carefully sort the hardware and familiarize
yourself with the function of each piece.

Locate the four mounting holes on the floor of the
Metro. Position the holes over the wood surfaces
so that the front door can swing open freely. Mark the
hole position onto the wood with a pencil or pen.

the Metro. Position the holes over the Mail Boss
steel post. Insert the four machine bolts
(provided with post) through the base of the Metro.
Using a 1/4” drill bit, drill four pilot holes in the
marked positions approximately 1 ½” deep into the
wood. Attach the Metro to the post using four
1 ½” lag screws. A ½”drive socket or a ½” wrench
may be used.

Secure the Metro to the post using a ½”drive
socket or a ½” wrench.
If installing street side, customers are required to contact the local post office prior to installation to ensure correct
placement and height of the mailbox at the street. Generally, mailboxes are installed at a height of 41- 45 inches from
the road surface to the inside floor of the mailbox or point of mail entry, and are set back 6 - 8 inches from the front
face of the curb or road edge to the mailbox door.

Locate the mail flag and remove the sticky sided tape shield from the back. Making sure the mailbox is clean,
attach the flag as shown about ½”behind the front edge and ½”below the top edge of the box.

Overview

The Mail Boss® Metro security mailbox is a robust and secure mailbox designed for both residential and commercial use. It is constructed from tough, vandal-resistant 16 and 14 gauge galvanized steel, ensuring durability and protection against tampering and the elements.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Mail Boss Metro is to provide a secure receptacle for incoming mail and a convenient way to signal outgoing mail for pickup. Its locking mechanism ensures that mail is protected from theft and unauthorized access. The mailbox is designed with a large internal volume, capable of storing several days' worth of mail, which is particularly useful for users who travel or receive a high volume of mail. The integrated mail flag allows users to signal their postman when there is outgoing mail to be picked up.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Construction: 16 and 14 gauge galvanized steel, offering high resistance to vandalism and corrosion.
  • Mounting: Can be installed on an exterior wall, a freestanding post (wood or steel), or a fence rail.
  • Dimensions (Installation Height):

Usage Features:

  • Versatile Installation: The Metro can be mounted in several ways:
    • Wood Post/Rail: Requires marking hole positions, drilling 1/4" pilot holes (approx. 1 1/2" deep), and securing with 1 1/2" lag screws using a 1/2" drive socket or wrench.
    • Mail Boss Steel Post: Involves positioning the mailbox over the post, inserting machine bolts through the base, and securing with a 1/2" drive socket or wrench.
    • Bevel Sided/Shingled Exterior Wall: Requires using a template to mark top two holes (55-65" high, adjusting for bevels), drilling 1/8" pilot holes (approx. 2" deep), attaching the mounting bracket with 2 1/4" screws (with caulk), hanging the Metro, marking bottom three holes, drilling pilot holes, and securing with remaining screws. Plastic bushings can be used for gaps between the mailbox and the wall.
    • Stucco or Masonry Exterior Wall: Similar to wood wall installation, but requires a masonry style drill bit (not provided) for pilot holes (approx. 2" deep) and potentially masonry screws or anchors for thick concrete, stucco, or brick walls. Water-resistant caulk is essential.
  • Mail Flag: A sticky-sided mail flag is included to signal outgoing mail. It should be attached about 1 1/2" behind the front edge and 1/2" below the top edge of the box.
  • Keyed Security: The mailbox comes with security keys to lock and unlock the unit, protecting mail from theft. Users are strongly advised to write down and keep their key number in a safe place for replacement key orders.
  • Identification: Reflective adhesive house numbers are provided to clearly identify the mailbox.

Maintenance Features:

  • UV and Weather Protection: To preserve the UV and weather coating, it is recommended to apply a clear or light-colored car wax to the exterior of the box 2-3 times per year.
  • Rust Prevention: If the mailbox finish is damaged, exposing the metal, prompt application of a matching protective paint (e.g., Rust-Oleum) is advised to prevent rusting.
  • Lock Maintenance: To preserve the lock's functionality, apply "Tri-Flow" lubricant to the interior of the lock twice a year. In areas with high dust, debris, or salt spray, considering a lock dust cover from mailboss.com is recommended for added protection.

  • Key Replacement: Replacement keys can be ordered if the key number is provided. Without the key number, a new lock and keys set must be purchased. For security purposes, proof of purchase may be required for key replacement. Additional keys can be purchased at mailboss.com.

Important Notes:

  • Mail carriers are not responsible for opening locked mailboxes, accepting keys for this purpose, or locking mailboxes after delivery.
  • For street-side installations, customers must contact their local post office prior to installation to ensure correct placement and height.
  • For EIFS ("faux" stucco) installations, consult an EIFS manufacturer for specific guidance.
