1. Select desired Current range 400A or 1000A (AC or DC).
2. Squeeze trigger to open the jaws and clamp them around the conductor to be
measured making sure the jaws are fully closed and the conductor is central
within them.
NOTE: If measuring DC Current use the zero function before clamping around
conductor and be sure to connect for correct polarity.
3.4 RESISTANCE MEASUREMENTS
1. De-energise circuit to be tested.
2. Select the resistance range (Ω).
3. Connect the Black test lead into the COM input jack on the CM58 and the Red
test lead into the HzΩF input jack.
4. Connect CM58 to circuit or device under test.
NOTE: If measuring a low resistance touch the test leads together and push
ZERO button to deduct test lead resistance.
If the CM58 displays a flashing 4 on the left of the reading this means the
resistance being measured is greater than the measurement range of the CM58.

3.5 CONTINUITY TESTING
1. De-energise circuit to be tested.
2. Select the Continuity range .
3. Connect the Black test lead into the COM input jack on the CM58 and the Red
test lead into the HzΩF input jack.
4. Connect CM58 to circuit or device under test.
5. The CM58 Will emit a tone when the resistance being measured is below 40Ω.
3.6 DIODE TESTING
1. Select Diode range .
2. Connect the Black test lead into the COM input jack on the CM58 and the Red
test lead into the HzΩF input jack.
3. Connect the Red lead to the anode and the Black lead to the cathode of the
diode to be tested.
NOTE: For a silicon diode the typical forward voltage should be approximately
0.6V. For a germanium the typical forward voltage should be 0.3V. If the diode is
reverse bias or there is an open circuit the reading displayed will be between
3.000V and 3.4000V.
CAUTION
Measurements must only be made with the circuit power OFF

3.7 CAPACITANCE MEASUREMENT
1. De-energise circuit to be tested and discharge all capacitors.
2. Set the rotary switch selector to the (capacitance) range.
3. Connect the Black test lead into the COM input jack on the CM58 and the Red
test lead into the HzΩF input jack.
4. Connect to the capacitor (observing the polarity on polarised capacitors).
NOTE: when measuring capacitors the accuracy can be improved by using the
ZERO function before making the measurement to null out the residual meter and
lead capacitance. However using the ZERO function will cause the CM58 to enter
manual ranging.
3.8 FREQUENCY MEASUREMENTS
1. Select the Frequency range (Hz).
2. Connect the Black test lead into the COM input jack on the CM58 and the Red
test lead into the HzΩF input jack.
3. Apply the test prods to the points across which the frequency is to be
measured.
NOTE: For frequencies below 100Hz and greater than 100kHz the unit may not
be suitable.

3.9 OTHER FUNCTIONS
RANGE Button
Press the RANGE button to select the manual ranging mode. The " " indicator
will be displayed. In the manual ranging mode, each time the range button is
pressed, the range will change to the next highest. To exit the manual ranging
mode and return to auto ranging, press and hold the range button for 2 seconds.
The " " indicator clears from the display and "AUTO" appears on the display.
ZERO Δ Button
Press the ZERO button to enter the relative mode, the "ZERO Δ" indicator is
displayed. The clampmeter stores the detected reading as a reference value and
then zeros the display. To exit this mode, press and hold the ZERO button for 2
seconds.
In the Relative mode, the value shown on the LCD is always the difference
between the stored reference value and the present reading. For example, if the
reference value is 24.00V and the present reading is 12.50V, the display will
indicate -11.50V. If the new reading is the same as the reference value, the
display will be zero. This feature can be used on all ranges.
Min / Max Button
1. Select desired measuring function and connect to the circuit to be measured.
2. Check you are measuring correctly.
3. Push the min/max button once, the CM58 will display the minimum value
measured from point when the min/max function was initialised.
4. Leave the CM58 measuring for the desired length of time.
5. Push hold button to stop measuring. Make a note of the minimum reading.
6. Push min/max button once to read the maximum reading.
7. Push min/max button again to clear the min/max readings and exit the
min/max function.
NOTE: if leaving for longer than 30 minutes the auto power off feature will have to
be disabled.
