Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the Mayne Nantucket and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document provides assembly instructions for the Nantucket & Winchester address signs, identified as #MIS005. It covers general information, a materials list, hardware pack contents, tools required, and step-by-step assembly instructions.

General Information

The manual emphasizes the importance of reading instructions carefully before beginning assembly and identifying each component from the materials list. Users are advised not to use excessive force during assembly to prevent damage. For cleaning, a soap solution and high-pressure water are recommended. In case of missing or defective parts, customers can contact Mayne's customer service at 1-866-363-8834.

Materials List

The primary component is the "Decorative Address Sign" (Part #1), which can be either the Nantucket or Winchester style. Only one sign is included.

Hardware Pack Includes:

  • #8 x 3" steel screw (Part #2): 12 screws are provided for securing the sign to the wood posts.
  • Nylon washer (Part #3): 12 washers are included to protect the plastic components when screws are tightened.
  • Plastic snap cap (Part #4): 12 caps are provided, with 4 each in white, tan, and grey, to cover the screw heads for a finished look and protection.

Additional Components (Not Included):

  • Two 4x4 wood posts (Part #5): These are essential for mounting the sign. The manual recommends a length of 48 inches.
  • Pre-mix concrete: Recommended for added stability in high wind or traffic areas.
  • Address plaques: These are also not included with Mayne address signs.

Tools Required

To complete the assembly, the following tools are necessary:

  • Cordless drill: For driving screws.
  • Robertson drill bit: A specific type of drill bit required for the provided screws.
  • Tape measure: For accurate measurements, particularly for post depth.
  • Level: To ensure the sign is installed straight and level.
  • Shovel: For digging the holes for the wood posts.

Assembly Instructions

Step 1: Attaching the Sign to Wood Posts

The first step involves inserting a 4x4 wood post (Part #5, not included) into one of the holes in the address sign. Approximately 20 inches of the post should extend from the bottom of the sign. The post is then secured to the sign's base using a 3-inch screw (Part #2) through each side, as illustrated in the diagram. Users are cautioned not to overtighten the screws, as this could cause the plastic to dimple or crack. This process is repeated for the second wood post. Nylon washers (Part #3) and plastic snap caps (Part #4) are provided to cover the screw heads, enhancing aesthetics and protecting the screws.

Step 2: Marking and Digging Post Holes

Once the sign is attached to the wood posts, it should be placed in the desired location to mark the exact positions where the posts will be installed. After marking, two 20-inch deep holes need to be dug for each post.

Step 3: Final Installation and Stabilization

The sign, with the attached wood posts, is then placed into the dug holes. The depth can be adjusted as needed to achieve the desired height. A level should be used to ensure the sign's orientation is perfectly straight. Once satisfied with the positioning, the holes are filled. For enhanced stability, especially in areas prone to high winds or heavy traffic, the manual recommends using pre-mix concrete (not included) to secure the posts in the ground.

Important Note

The manual explicitly states that 4x4 wood posts, pre-mix concrete, and address plaques are NOT included with Mayne address signs.

Product Description

The Nantucket & Winchester address signs are decorative outdoor fixtures designed to display house numbers. They feature a classic, framed design, available in two distinct styles: Nantucket and Winchester. The signs are constructed from durable plastic components, designed to withstand outdoor elements. The assembly process involves securing the plastic sign frame to two 4x4 wood posts (not included) using steel screws, nylon washers, and plastic snap caps. The entire assembly is then installed into the ground by digging holes and backfilling them, with an option for concrete reinforcement for added stability. The product is designed for easy maintenance, recommending a soap solution and high-pressure water for cleaning. The inclusion of various colored snap caps allows for some customization to match different aesthetic preferences. The product aims to provide a distinguished and clear display for residential addresses.
