J Rear-Wheel
Antilock Brake
System (Rear
-Wheel ABS)*
This system reduces the possibility of
sustained rear-wheel brake lockup by
immediately sensing any lockup and
modulating the rear brake pressure.
Even so, you must always be careful in
all hazardous driving situations, espe-
cially on unusual surfaces, such as ice
and water.
Even
with ABS, you may
lose control of
the vehicle through heavy braking on
loose surfaces such as snow and gravel,
on broken pavement, and on alternate
patches of slippery and dry surfaces.
You’ll
notice some pulsation in the brake
pedal
when the ABS
system is operating
normally. If the vehicle has continuous
vibration or shudder in the steering
wheel
while braking, the vehicle should
be
inspected by a qualified service
tech
-
nician.
NOTE
If
the antilock warning light stays on
while you’re driving, the ABS con-
trol unit has detected a system mal-
function. If this occurs, your brakes
will
function normally as if they had
no
ABS. Should this happen,
consult
an
Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon
as possible.
