Ballasting with water
Thetractorcanalsobeballastedbyfillingthetyreswith
water.
Tolowerthefreezingpointafewdegreesinwinter,add
calciumchloridetothewaterincompliancewiththepro-
portionsgiveninthefollowingtable.Theballastshould
evidently be removed when the job does not require
excessivedraft,otherwisethesoilcouldbecomeexces-
sivelycompressed.
Thefollowingtablegivesapproximatevaluesfortheliters
ofwaterandkilosofcalciumchloriderequiredtoprepare
theantifreezesolutionusedtothree-quarters(75%)fill
eachtyre.
Inrelationtoballastingwithcastironringsonthedriving
wheels, this type of weighting offers the following ad-
vantages:
- Lowcost.
- Easypreparation.
- Improvedsteering.
- Theweightofthedrivingwheelscanberegulatedac-
cordingtotherealrequirements.
CAUTION: Ballasting with water and calcium chlori-
de antifreeze solution can increase corrosion of the
components that come into contact with the mixture.
