PUTTING THE TRACTOR INTO STORAGE
Preparing for long idle periods
Take the following precautionary measures when your
tractorisnotgoingtobeusedforalongperiodoftime.
Tocarryouttheoperationsdescribedhereunder,seethe
sectionsrelativetothemaintenanceofthevariousparts.
Always use specific personal safety devices for each
serviceoperation.
- parkthetractorinadry,shelteredplace
- drain,flushandfillthecoolingsystemwiththecor-
rectantifreezemixturetoprotectthetractortothe
lowestanticipatedtemperature.
- greaseallpointsprovidedwithgreasenipples
- cleanthefuelfilter
- generallycleanthetractor,particularlythebodywork
components.Protectthepaintedpartsbyapplying
siliconewaxandtheunpaintedmetalpartsbyap-
plyingprotectivelubricant.Parkthetractorinadry,
shelteredandpossiblyventilatedplace.
- makesurethatallcontrolsareinneutral(including
theelectricswitchesandparkingbrakecontrols)
- removetheignitionkeyfromtheignitionswitch
- coatallexposedcylinderrodswithgreasetopre-
ventrust.
- emptythefueltankandfillitwithnewdieselfuel
untilthemaximumlevelisreached.
- thebatteriesdonotneedtoberemovedfromthe
tractor,exceptforextendedstorage(morethan30
days)belowfreezingtemperatures.Thebatteries
mustbefullychargedtopreventfreezing.Discon-
nectthenegative(-)groundcableatthebatteriesto
preventpossibledischarge.
- forlongidleperiods,removethebattery,cleanthe
coverandspreadVaselineontheterminalsand
terminalcaps.Nowplacethebatteryinaventilated
placewherethetemperatureisnotliabletodrop
below10°Candwhereitisnotexposedtodirect
sunlightCheckthebatterychargeevery30days.
- checkthebatterychargewithavoltmeterasde-
scribedintheElectricalsystemsection.Rechargeif
itisnecessary
- storethetractorwherethereisprotectionfrom
sunlight.Cleanthetyres.
- placestandsorothersupportsundertheaxlesin
ordertotaketheweightoffthewheels.Whenthe
tractorisraisedinthisway,itisadvisabletodeflate
thetyres.Ifthisisnotpossible,thetyrepressure
mustbeperiodicallychecked.
- coverthetractorwithatarpaulin(notplasticor
waterproof).
Removing the tractor from storage
WARNING: At the end of the idle period, when
you start the engine again, pay particular
attention to the instructions about starting
the engine in the Operation chapter.
Tocarryouttheoperationsdescribedhereunder,seethe
sectionsrelativetothemaintenanceofthevariousparts.
Always use specific personal safety devices for each
serviceoperation.
- Openthefuelfilterdrainplugandremovecontami-
natedfuel.Closethedrainplug.
- topupthelevelofoilinthegearbox.
- checkthecoolantlevelinthereservoirandradiator.
- checkthatthebatteriesarefullycharged.
- connectthegroundcable(s)(-)andtightenalltermi-
nals.
- checkthetransmission/hydraulicfluidlevelandlink-
ages.
- checkthefront(ifequipped)andrearhitch.
- checkandadjustthetensiononalldrivebelts.
- inflatethetyrestothecorrectoperatingpressures.
- makesurethatallshieldsandguardsareinthecor-
rectposition.
- donotacceleratetheenginerapidly,oroperateat
highRPMimmediatelyafterstarting.
WARNING: Before starting the engine, be sure
all operating controls are in neutral and the
park brake applied. This will eliminate acci-
dental movement of the machine on start-up
or power driven equipment.
WARNING: Do not operate the engine in a
closed building. Proper ventilation is re-
quired under all circumstances.
