The TEMP 2® Fluid Warmer, 6000 Series, is a mobile unit designed for the storage and warming of I.V. and irrigation fluid bags or bottles prior to their use. It ensures that fluids are maintained at a consistent, pre-set temperature. The unit is intended for use in medical facilities and is not designed for warming blood or blood products.
Function Description:
The device consists of a single cabinet with two internal shelves, each independently heated. A central temperature controller manages the heating for both shelves. The controller features a display that shows two temperatures: the top display (in red) indicates the temperature of the top shelf heater plate, and the bottom display (in green) shows the temperature of the bottom shelf heater plate. A light in the upper left corner of the display illuminates when the controller is actively warming the unit. The TEMP 2® Fluid Warmer is designed to assist in compliance with JCAHO® standard MM 2.20 and fluid manufacturer specifications for time and temperature. The unit can be left on continuously without harm.

Usage Features:
The unit is mobile, equipped with casters for easy relocation. Operation is straightforward: turn the unit on by pressing the power switch, which will illuminate when energized. The controller performs a self-test and then displays the current temperatures of the shelf heater plates. The factory preset temperature is 104°F. Users can adjust the temperature setting for each shelf independently. To change the set point, press the INDEX KEY (leftmost key) to view Set Point One (SP1) for the top shelf or twice for Set Point Two (SP2) for the bottom shelf. Use the UP or DOWN ARROW KEYS to change the setting and the ENTER KEY (rightmost key) to accept the new set point. The shelves operate independently, allowing users to decrease the set point for an unused shelf to reduce operating costs. The unit includes a Documentor™ for labeling fluid bags with a "Future Date Label," indicating the recommended time for fluid use based on manufacturer guidelines. This feature aids in documentation and compliance.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: The unit should be turned off and disconnected from the power source before cleaning. The cabinet can be wiped down with a damp cloth using a general hospital cleaner (e.g., Isopropyl Alcohol), following the cleaner's manufacturer instructions. Care must be taken to avoid contact with electrical connections and components. In case of excessive fluid spills inside the cabinet, the unit must be unplugged immediately, and qualified service personnel should be contacted to remove the service panel, clean any liquid or dry components, and perform necessary hospital electrical safety checks before returning the unit to service.
- Troubleshooting: If the unit fails to warm, users should check if it is plugged in, the power switch is on, and the set point setting is correctly configured for operation. If the unit overheats, Medical Solutions, Inc. should be contacted. Technical assistance is available at 800-435-7600.
- Preventive Maintenance Plan: The TEMP 2® temperature controller should be verified every five (5) years. Verification involves using a Fluke 51II Digital Thermometer with a 6" Long .093" Diameter Type T Needle Thermocouple (calibrated to the thermometer). The procedure involves inserting the thermocouple into a three-liter IV fluid bag placed on the center of the bottom shelf, with the top shelf also loaded. The unit is set to 104°F and allowed to operate for a minimum of 6 hours. The controller reading is then compared to the thermometer reading; both should be within two degrees Fahrenheit. If not, Medical Solutions, Inc. should be contacted. An alternative verification method using a glass laboratory thermometer is also provided, with similar temperature comparison criteria (100.4°F to 105.8°F). The calibration process should be repeated for each shelf.
- Fuse Removal: Instructions are provided for replacing fuses. The unit must be disconnected from power before removing fuses. Top fuses are 3 Amp, 250 VAC heater fuses, and bottom fuses are 5 Amp, 250 VAC line fuses. Fuses are removed by turning counter-clockwise with a slotted screwdriver and replaced with the same rating.
- Service Panel Access: The top plate needs to be removed to access the electrical compartment. The bottom access plate requires removing 8 screws to access the bottom heater. The top shelf heater plate requires removing the 2 front screws and loosening the 2 rear screws holding the access panel in place.
