Attaching safety seats with
tether straps
Top tether straps hold a forwardĆ
facing child safety seat more
securely in a crash, and help to fit
the child safety seat snugly into the
vehicle seat.
A child safety seat with a VĆshaped
tether (attached to both upper
corners of the child safety seat)
may fit more snugly with the high
rear seat backs in your vehicle.
For infants, using a convertible
child safety seat with a top tether
strap rearĆfacing may provide a
more secure safety seat installation
and further enhance child safety in
a collision situation.
Some manufacturers make safety
seats that include a tether strap,
which goes over the back of the
vehicle seat and attaches to an
anchoring point. Other
manufacturers offer their tether
strap as an accessory. Contact the
manufacturer of your child safety
seat for information about ordering
a tether strap.
To install a tethered child safety
seat in the rear seat, you will need
tether anchor hardware and must
take the cargo area cover out of the
vehicle.
