b. Drain engine block by removing plug or open-
ing petcocks. Be sure to drain both port and
starboard sides.

2. Disconnect hoses from thermostat cover.
3. Remove thermostat cover attaching bolts and
lockwashers, then remove cover and gasket.
NOTE: Some engines may be equipped with a Lifting
Eye bracket (not shown following) under thermostat
cover bolts. Observe orientation so that it may be in-
stalled during reassembly exactly as before removal.
4. Remove thermostat from thermostat housing.
