When are Airbags Inflated?
The frontal airbag is designed to inflate in a
mild-tosevere frontal collision to help reduce
the risk of severe head and chest injury to
the driver.
Whether the frontal airbag inflates depends
not only on the speed of the vehicle, but on
the object being collided with, the direction
of the collision, and the vehicle deceleration
within the unit time during the collision.
The frontal airbag may be inflated in different
collision speed. It depends on whether
the vehicle hits the object straight or at an
angle at the moment of the collision, and
on whether the collided object is fixed or
moving, nondeformable or deformable,
narrow or wide. Due to different design of
each model, the collision inflation conditions
of the frontal airbag may vary. Frontal airbags
do not inflate when the vehicle rolls over or
subject to rear impact and side impact. The
frontal airbag may not be inflated in slight
head-on or nearly head-on collisions, lateral
or diagonal collisions, collisions to cylindrical
objects (such as telegraph pole and tree
trunk), rear-end collisions under large vehicle
(trucks, etc.) breast board and lateral glancing
collisions.
The front seat airbag will inflate according to
the collision position in case of a moderate or
severe collision.
The front seat airbag do not inflate in the
event of a minor frontal collision, near
frontal collision, vehicle rollover, or rear-
end collision. They also will not inflate in the
event of a minor side, frontal or diagonal
collision only.
In case of a collision, the front seat airbag on
the struck side will inflate. However, airbags
will not inflate in all types of collisions. For a
specific accident, it is not easy to determine
whether the airbag should inflate according
to the causal relationship, vehicle damage or
maintenance costs. Your vehicle is equipped
with collision sensors and diagnostic
modules. If the accident is not a minor one,
the diagnostic module will record relevant
information after the crash. If your airbag
fails during a collision, please contact the
Aftersales Service Center for professional
analysis and diagnosis.
How is the Airbag Inflated?
In the inflation process, the sensing system
will send an electronic signal to trigger the
gas generator; the generator will release
gas to inflate the airbag and to make the
airbag pops up from the cover plate. The gas
generator, airbag and relevant members are
all components of the air bag module.
How does the Airbag Provide
Protection?
The airbag supplements protection provided
by the seat belt by distributing the impact
force more evenly to the passenger’s body.
However, when passengers move not
toward the airbag during a collision, and
when external objects invade the vehicle,
the airbag cannot provide corresponding
protection. The airbag shall only be deemed
as a supplementary device of the seat belt.
