T ransmission
InTiptronicmodeTCMwillpreventautomaticupshiftsand
theenginespeedcanbeincreasedtomaximum.TheTCM,
however,onlyallowsmanualgearshiftsiftheenginespeed
iswithinpresetparameters.Ifthevehicleisbroughttoa
standstill,1stgearwillbeselectedautomatically.Allgears,
including5th,canbeselectedandthecurrentgearwillbe
displayedinthedriver'sinstrumentpack.InTiptronicmode,
thevehiclecanstartin1st,2ndor3rdgear .
SnowMode
Inwintermode,startthevehiclein2ndgear,theTCMwill
modifygearchangeschedulingtoaidthecontrolofthevehicle
inwetoricyconditions.Gearchangeswillshiftatlowerengine
speeds.
CruiseMode
ActivatingcruisecontrolwillprompttheTCMtoentercruise
mode.Thecruisecontrolsystemrequiresquickactingand
largethrottleanglevariationstomaintainthevehiclespeed,
whichcausesthetransmissiontocontinuallyupanddownshift.
WhencruisecontrolisselectedasignalissenttotheTCM
whichactivatesaspeciallydesignedcruisecontrolshiftmap
thatisfarlesssensitivetochangesinthrottleangle.
UpslopeMode
Hillmodemodiesthetransmissionshiftpatterntoassist
driveabilityonsteepgradients.TheTCMdetectsthe
conditionstoactivatehillmodebymonitoringtheengine
torquevalues,throttleangleandenginespeed.Thismode
delaysupshiftwhenthethrottleisbrieyreleased,such
aswhenapproachingacorneronasteepgradient,thus
preventingunnecessarygearchanges.
HotMode
Thepurposeofthetransmissionuidcoolingstrategyisto
reduceengineandtransmissiontemperaturesduringhigh
loadconditions.Undertheseconditionstheengineand
transmissionmaygenerateexcessiveheat.TheTCMwill
adopta'HotMode'gearshiftstrategyifthesensorsignalsan
ATFtemperatureabove130℃.WhentheTCMselectsHot
Modeearlyupshiftofthegearswillbeexperiencedandthe
lock-upclutchwilloperateinthird,fourthandfthgears.This
willreduceeithertheenginespeedortheslipinthetorque
converter,thereforereducingtheheatgenerated.Normal
gearshiftstrategywillresumeiftheATFtemperaturefalls
below125℃.
Entering'HotMode'doesnotcausetheilluminationofany
warninglightsintheinstrumentpack.
GearShiftInhibition(ABS/DSCActive)
Ifcurrentgearshiftingisinprogress,thisfunctioninhibitsgear
shiftingaftercurrentgearshiftingisnished.
Gearshiftingforfollowingpurposeisallowedevenifthis
functionisactivated.
•GearshiftingforprotectionofEngineorAutomatic
T ransmission
Suchaspreventionofengineoverrevolution,prevention
ofclutchslippinginsituationthathightorqueandlow
speedathighgear.
•1-2upshiftasfailsafeactionfor1stgearfailure.
