2 Replacement from FX3G to FX5S
2.1 Outline
The FX5S is equipped with a built-in USB (Mini-B) connector and built-in Ethernet port as standard.
This module is compact and condenses the high basic performance, such as the positioning and IoT functions, and ease of
use. This facilitates configuring user systems.
The procedures and points for replacing an existing model with the FX5S are shown below. Use this information to consider
replacing existing models.
Points to Consider
• The "recommended substitute models" are described for individual FX3G and extension modules that can be replaced by
MELSEC iQ-F Series models. According to usage and system configuration (connection status of the extension modules),
and cases when the I/O numbers actually used are small, other models than the described “recommended substitute
models” may be suitable for replacement.
• The recommended substitute models for items such as extension modules and function expansion boards are described
with those that can be connected to the FX5S CPU module.
• Contents that require special caution when replacing each model are described in “Special notes”. Most recommended
substitute models have various differences in the specifications other than those in “Special notes” such as the dimensions
becoming smaller than the current models. Therefore, when considering usage, please check not only the “Special notes”
but also the details of various specifications such as the dimensions and power specifications in the manual.
• Based on the above conditions, "No recommended substitute models" is described for those without a recommended
substitute model, but there are cases that can be replaced with an FX5S system configuration according to usage and
system configuration. Check the necessary functions and features when considering the replacement with FX5S system
configuration.
2.2 Replacement Procedure
The procedure for replacing the FX3G with the FX5S is shown below.
