CAUTION
If you continue to drive with the warning lamps
lit and/or flashing and a buzzer sounding, the
NOx level of exhaust emissions will increase,
damaging the environment. In addition, the
BlueTec
®
exhaust gas aftertreatment will be
damaged. Continuing to drive in this condition
also results in reduced engine output and finally
in the engagement of driving restrictions after
which the vehicle can be driven only at slow
speed.
• The following conditions will result if the system
detects an unacceptable fluid (water, low-den-
sity DEF, etc.):
• The warning lamp comes on.
• (amber) is shown.
• The DEF level warning lamp flashes.
• Engine power is reduced in stages.
NOTE:
The engine power will be further reduced in stages
if you add any fluid (such as water, low-density DEF,
etc.) other than the acceptable DEF within 4,800 km
(3,000 miles) or 160 hours of driving after the above
condition occurs.
• If you drive another 80 km (50 miles) or 1 hour
after detection, the warning indications men-
tioned above will be supplemented as follows:
• The warning lamp will change from
amber to red.
• A buzzer will start sounding.
• The engine power will be further reduced in
stages.
• If you continue to drive more than another 160
km (100 miles) or additional 2 hours after the
detection of unacceptable fluid (such as water,
low-density DEF, etc.), the system applies the
following control:
• Leaves the DEF level warning lamp to
flash.
• Changes the state of operation of the
warning lamp from lit to flashing.
• Makes the buzzer sound louder.
• Engages a driving restriction, locking the
gear in 1st or reverse. The vehicle then can
be driven only at slow speed.
