Overview

This document is a user manual for the MITSUBISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES, LTD. Air-Conditioner, models SRK20ZJ-S, SRK25ZJ-S, SRK35ZJ-S, and SRK50ZJ-S. It provides detailed instructions for operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of the unit. The air conditioner is designed for domestic use and complies with EMC Directive 2004/108/EC and LV Directive 2006/95/EC.

Function Description

The air conditioner is designed to provide cooling, heating, dehumidification (DRY mode), and fan-only operation. It features various modes and settings to enhance user comfort and energy efficiency.

Operation Modes:

  • AUTO mode: Automatically selects the appropriate operation mode (COOL, HEAT, DRY) based on the room temperature. The preset temperature for both heating and cooling in AUTO mode is 24°C, with adjustable levels from -6 to +6 relative to the preset.
  • COOL mode: Provides cooling to lower the room temperature.
  • HEAT mode: Heats the room by drawing heat from the outside air. Heating capacity may reduce in colder outside temperatures. The unit performs automatic defrosting for 5 to 15 minutes if the outdoor heat exchanger frosts over, during which indoor and outdoor fans stop, and the RUN light blinks.
  • DRY mode: Dehumidifies the room.
  • FAN mode: Circulates air without cooling or heating.

Timer Functions:

  • SLEEP TIMER: Automatically stops the unit after a set period, with automatic temperature adjustment to prevent excessive cooling or heating. The unit stops after the set time elapses.
  • ON-TIMER: Starts operation at a preset time, with the unit beginning 5 to 60 minutes before the set time to reach the optimum temperature.
  • OFF-TIMER: Stops operation at a preset time.
  • PROGRAM TIMER: Combines ON and OFF timer operations, repeating daily unless cancelled. Features "Comfort Start-up" in ON-TIMER operation, where the unit starts earlier (5 to 60 minutes) to reach the optimum temperature by the ON time.

Special Operations:

  • HIGH POWER operation: Intensifies operating power for 15 minutes of powerful cooling or heating. The room temperature is not controlled in this mode.
  • ECONOMY operation: Provides a soft operation with suppressed power for energy saving, operating 1.5°C higher than the setting temperature during cooling or 2.5°C lower during heating.
  • ALLERGEN CLEAR operation: Uses enzymes to eliminate allergy-causing allergens from the air-cleaning filter. This operation runs for approximately 90 minutes and is recommended when no one is in the room. Temperature, fan speed, airflow direction, and timer settings cannot be adjusted during this mode.
  • SELF CLEAN operation: Removes moisture from inside the indoor unit and controls mold and bacteria growth after AUTO, COOL, or DRY operation. The indoor unit fan runs for about two hours.

Airflow Control:

  • Airflow direction adjustment: Up/down and left/right airflow directions can be adjusted using the remote control.
  • 3D AUTO operation: Automatically controls fan speed and airflow direction to efficiently condition the entire room.
  • MEMORY FLAP: Allows users to stop the flap or louver at a desired position, which is then memorized for future operations.

Safety Features:

  • Auto restart function: Records the operational status before a power cut and automatically resumes operations after power is restored. Timer settings and HIGH POWER operations are cancelled during auto restart.
  • Three-minute protection timer: Blocks immediate restart for 3 minutes after stopping operation to protect the unit.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Refrigerant: R410A, a fluorinated greenhouse gas with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) = 1975.
  • Operable Temperature Range:
    • Cooling: Outside temperature -15 to 46°C, Inside temperature 18 to 32°C, Inside humidity below 80%.
    • Heating: Outside temperature -15 to 21°C, Inside temperature 15 to 30°C.
  • Batteries for Remote Control: R03 (AAA, Micro) x2. Recommended effective period is 6 to 12 months.
  • Filters:
    • Air filter: Removes dust and dirt.
    • Air-cleaning filter: Enhances air quality.
    • Allergen clear filter (Light orange): Eliminates allergy-causing allergens using enzymes. Replace approximately every 1 year.
    • Photocatalytic washable deodorizing filter (Orange): Breaks down odor sources for a deodorizing effect. Can be washed and revitalized by sunlight.

Usage Features

Remote Control Handling:

  • Battery replacement: Instructions for replacing exhausted batteries, noting polarity and recommended battery types.
  • ACL switch: Used for resetting the microcomputer and setting the time.
  • Remote control holder: Allows mounting the remote control on a wall or pillar.
  • Buzzer sound: Provides audible feedback for operations, such as preset temperature 24°C, automatic operation, automatic airflow, and turning off the unit.

Current Time Setting:

  • The time is automatically set to 13:00 when batteries are inserted. Users can adjust it using the "TEMP" buttons and confirm with the ON/OFF button.

FAN SPEED Selection:

  • Users can choose fan speed (AUTO, HI, MED, LO) in heating, cooling, or fan modes.

Installation Location Setting:

  • Allows adjustment of the left/right airflow range to maximize conditioning effectiveness based on the unit's installation location (Center, Right End, Left End Installation).

Troubleshooting:

  • Provides a guide for common issues like the unit not working, poor cooling/heating, strange noises, and remote control signal reception, along with potential causes and solutions.
  • Emphasizes contacting the dealer for service or inspection, especially regarding R410A refrigerant.

Maintenance Features

Before Operational Season:

  • Perform fan operation for half a day to dry the inside of the unit.
  • Stop the unit and turn off the power supply to save energy.
  • Clean and reinstall air filters.
  • Clean both indoor and outdoor units.
  • Remove batteries from the remote control.

During Operational Season (Standard interval: every two weeks):

  • Cleaning the air filter: Remove, clean with warm water (approx. 30°C), dry thoroughly, and reinstall. Avoid boiling water or open flames.
  • Cleaning the unit: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth or use a vacuum cleaner. For very dirty units, use a cloth soaked in warm water.
  • Cleaning the air inlet panel: The panel can be removed, washed with water, and dried out of direct sunlight.

At the Beginning of the Season:

  • Ensure no obstacles block airflow around indoor and outdoor unit openings.
  • Check for corrosion or rust on the outdoor unit's base frame.
  • Verify earth wiring is intact.
  • Ensure air filters are clean.
  • Turn on the power supply.
  • Insert batteries into the remote control.

Air-Cleaning Filter Maintenance:

  • Removal and inspection: Remove filter holders, then remove and inspect the allergen clear filter and photocatalytic washable deodorizing filter.
  • Cleaning: Use a vacuum cleaner for the allergen clear filter. For the photocatalytic washable deodorizing filter, periodically remove dust/dirt, or wash with water if very dirty. Dry in sunlight to revitalize.
  • Replacement: Replace the allergen clear filter approximately every year.
  • Installation: Install the air-cleaning filter in the filter holders, ensuring the light orange side of the allergen clear filter faces front, then install filter holders and air filters, and close the air inlet panel.

General Maintenance Tips:

  • Clean filters frequently to prevent clogging, which can reduce efficiency and increase noise.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and draughts by using curtains or blinds.
  • Keep windows and doors shut, except when ventilating.
  • Keep heat sources away from the room during cooling.
  • Operate the unit only when needed, using timers effectively.

Environmental Responsibility:

  • The manual includes information on proper disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and batteries, adhering to EU directives, to promote recycling and prevent environmental harm.
