Xoom Companion
the SYStem Bar and aCtiOn Bar
These two areas of the Xoom interface enable you to access hidden features,
or at least, features positioned out of sight and thus, out of the way. The
System Bar runs across the boom of the screen, and the Action Bar is avail-
able across the top. What you have access to in both places depends on what
notifications are available and what app is open.
The System Bar is always present; although, it can be dimmed when view-
ing full-screen video. You may see multiple notifications. To learn more about
any notification, tap its icon. To view all notifications together, tap the Clock
or Network icon.
The Action Bar controls or configures an open application. You may find
contextual options, navigation options, widgets, or other types of content
there. The Action Bar is always present when an application is in use. What
you can find there is governed by the app though, not by the Xoom or the
Android OS. Thus, the options you see in this bar or any drop-down menu
depend solely on the app creator. Figure 1-11 shows the Action Bar as it
appears in the Gmail app when an email is selected and in reading mode. You
can access various options including Search, New Mail, Archive, Delete, and
even a drop-down menu that offers additional options (including Refresh,
Seings, Help, and more).
