Chapter One:
How Do I Get Started with the Motorola Xoom?
As long as you hold on tightly to it, you can flip the Xoom so that it faces
away from you. This automatically positions it so the person siing across
from you can see what you’ve been looking at. Of course, you can rotate the
Xoom 180 degrees, too.
Finally, you can twist the Xoom. Twisting is oen used when you play a
game. You might twist the Xoom while playing a driving game to make a sharp
turn, or twist to make a ball fall in a hole in a labyrinth game. The accelerom-
eter makes this possible.
Navigating Menus and Tabs
As you know, the Xoom offers access to additional options through hidden
drop-down lists, menus, and even Seings screens. When a menu or set of
options are available, you simply tap to make a choice. Most of the time you
don’t need to tap a seing and then tap Save or Apply; most of the time simply
tapping an option applies it.
You can find menu options, seings options, and control options mostly
in the Action Bar; however, some apps may offer access to controls on the
System Bar. Sometimes, the controls you need are on the screen itself, such as
is the case with the Camera app. (If you haven’t explored the Camera app yet,
you should; it’s quite impressive!)
One of the apps that offers the most options for making configuration
changes that affect your Xoom is the Seings app. To access this app and
make system-wide changes, and to practice moving around in your Xoom,
follow these steps:
. Tap the Open Apps icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
. Tap Seings. (If you already downloaded apps from the Market, the
Seings icon may be on the next Seings screen, so flick from right to
le to access the additional screen.)
. Tap each option on the le side to see the options on the right. In
Figure 1-13, the Location & Security tab is selected.
. Tap any item to change the seing. Aer tapping an option, you may
need to make additional choices.
. Tap the Home buon to close the Seings app.
