Thank You for buying the LionHeart, which is likely the most advanced yet intuitively utilitarian handheld
flashlight available at this time.
There is a “Belleville Spring” included with your light, which is similar to a very low dome-shaped washer in
appearance. The wide part of the dome should face the bottom of the battery tube. For convenience you may
want to apply a dab of conductive grease at the bottom of the battery tube to prevent the Belleville Spring from
tipping out when changing/recharging batteries.
DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE HEAD without reading this first –
1) The reflector only fits over the Luxeon star one way. If you look at the bottom of the reflector around
the hole you will see two curved ridges. The two breaks between these ridges are where the leads of the
Luxeon must fit into, BUT WAIT – there are also three legs, and the leg that aligns with the CENTER of
one of those two curved ridges is the leg that MUST go into the cutout between the two soldered wire
points on the Luxeon star.
2) Then place UCL lens on the reflector
3) Then screw bezel down over the lens/reflector, first making certain the lens o-ring is in place.
4) ANY deviation to the above procedure may result in mis-focusing or even permanent damage to your
LionHeart. In fact if there is no need to open up the head, it is strongly suggested that you do not.
Lastly, the LionHeart is designed to run with one Pila 150A (or S, but A is preferred) cell ONLY. In a pinch a
disposable CR123 battery w/spacer (wadded up aluminum foil will do) can be used, but any attempt to drive it
with a power source other than these mentioned may result in long term, if not immediate, damage to your light.
When the “long tube” battery accessory becomes available then the Pila 168A (or S, but A is preferred) is the
specified battery to be used for significantly extended run times.
1 Basic Operation (this is all you need to access the power, range, and versatility of the dimming feature)
a-Click the button once from OFF and it turns ON.
b-Click the button again and it turns OFF.
c-PRESS and HOLD from OFF and light goes into momentary ON, release and it turns OFF.
d-Press and hold while light is already ON, and it will scroll through all 64 brightness levels (release and re-
press to get it going the other way).
However, the LionHeart can be user configured to operate in one of two different modes. The user can change
the modes as often as desired. Now with that said…
*DISCLAIMER: IF ALL THE FUNCTIONS YOU NEED ARE DESCRIBED IN STEPS “a”
THROUGH “d” ABOVE,
PLEASE STOP HERE (yeah like That’s gonna work). THE LIONHEART IS
CAPABLE OF MUCH MORE, BUT WILL REQUIRE MORE READING AND FOLLOWING
DIRECTIONS AND COMPLICATED STUFF LIKE THAT. THE THING TO KEEP IN MIND IS
THAT YOU
CANNOT HURT ANYTHING AND YOU CAN ALWAYS REVERT TO THE ORIGINAL
DEFAULT DIMMING MODE BY FOLLOWING STEP 5, AND THEN 5.2, BELOW…
2 Definitions
· Click – a short, less than 0.3 seconds press and release.
· Press – a longer, greater than 0.3 seconds press and hold.

Overview

The LionHeart is an advanced, intuitively utilitarian handheld flashlight designed for various lighting needs.

Function Description:

The LionHeart flashlight provides illumination with a range of brightness levels and operating modes. It is designed for both continuous and momentary lighting, with features for brightness adjustment, power management, and user configuration.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Source: Primarily designed to run with one Pila 150A (or S, but A is preferred) cell. A disposable CR123 battery with a spacer (wadded up aluminum foil) can be used in a pinch, but other power sources may cause long-term damage. The Pila 168A (or S, but A is preferred) is specified for significantly extended run times when the "long tube" battery accessory becomes available.
  • Brightness Levels: Offers 64 continuously variable brightness levels in its default configuration (Configuration Mode 0). Alternatively, it can be configured for 5 discrete brightness levels (Configuration Mode 1).
  • Autosleep Mode: When enabled, the light will dim gradually after 15 minutes of inactivity and turn off completely after 60 minutes. If set to the dimmest level, Autosleep is temporarily disabled, allowing for a low-power locator mode or nightlight with current consumption less than 10mA.
  • Belleville Spring: Included for proper battery contact; the wide part of the dome should face the bottom of the battery tube. A dab of conductive grease is recommended to prevent tipping.

Usage Features:

Basic Operation (Default Configuration - Continuously Variable Levels):

  • Turning On/Off: Click the button once from OFF to turn ON at the previous brightness level. Click again to turn OFF.
  • Momentary On: Press and HOLD from OFF for momentary ON. Release to turn OFF.
  • Brightness Adjustment: While the light is ON, press and HOLD to scroll through all 64 brightness levels. Release to set the desired level. Re-press to scroll in the opposite direction. The new level is stored in EEPROM.
  • Autosleep Mode (Default Off): If enabled via Menu Mode, the light dims after 15 minutes of inactivity and turns off after 60 minutes. A click or press returns it to the original brightness level.

Configuration 1 (Optional) - 5 Discrete Levels:

  • Turning On/Off: Click the switch to turn ON at the previous level or the Force level (if enabled). Click again to turn OFF.
  • Brightness Adjustment: Start with the light OFF, then press the switch. The light will turn on at Level 1 (dimmest) and brighten. Release at the desired level to store it in EEPROM. Pressing again within 1.5 seconds toggles the adjustment direction. Adjustment stops if the switch is released for more than 1.5 seconds.
  • Momentary Full Brightness Mode: While ON, a press momentarily selects Level 5 (brightest). Releasing returns to the original level.
  • Lockout Mode: To prevent accidental activation, start with the light OFF, then press and hold. The light cycles through Level 1 to 5, then flashes three times after 5 seconds at Level 5. Release the switch. To unlock, perform three clicks spaced no more than 0.5 seconds apart.
  • Autosleep Mode: Similar to the default configuration, but if a press is used to return to original brightness, it will then go to Momentary Level 5 mode.
  • Force Mode: Selected from the Power-on Menu. Overrides the initial turn-on brightness level set by Adjustment Mode. A new temporary level can be set, but it will be overridden the next time the light is turned off and back on.

Power-on Menu Mode (for Configuration Changes):

This mode allows users to configure Autosleep, Configuration Mode (0 or 1), and Force Mode settings.

  1. Access: Unscrew the battery tube to remove power. Press the switch, then screw the battery tube back in to apply power. The LED will light up dim as feedback.
  2. Menu Indication: After 1 second, the LED flashes bright once, then goes off. Release the switch.
  3. Selection: Click the switch 1 to 3 times within 2.5 seconds to select a menu mode. More than 3 clicks or no clicks within 2.5 seconds results in an error flash (5 times) and exits Menu Mode.
    • One click (Autosleep Enable/Disable): LED is dim for active, bright for inactive. Click to cycle. Wait 2.5 seconds to confirm.
    • Two clicks (Configuration Selection): LED is bright for Mode 0, dim for Mode 1. Click to cycle. Wait 2.5 seconds to confirm.
    • Three clicks (Force Mode Enable/Adjust/Disable - Configuration Mode 1 only): LED is dim for Force Level 1. Each click cycles through Force Levels 1-5 (dim to brightest) and then "Force Disabled" (LED off). Wait 2.5 seconds to confirm.
  4. Completion: After selection, the light turns off, and the new settings are active.

Maintenance Features:

  • Head Disassembly: Disassembly of the head is discouraged unless necessary. If required, follow these steps precisely:
    1. Ensure the reflector fits over the Luxeon star correctly, aligning the two curved ridges with the Luxeon leads and the leg with the cutout between the soldered wire points.
    2. Place the UCL lens on the reflector.
    3. Screw the bezel down over the lens/reflector, ensuring the lens o-ring is in place.
  • Battery Replacement: When changing/recharging batteries, a dab of conductive grease at the bottom of the battery tube can prevent the Belleville Spring from tipping out.

Important Notes:

  • Any deviation from the head assembly procedure may result in mis-focusing or permanent damage.
  • The device is designed to be robust; "you cannot hurt anything and you can always revert to the original default dimming mode by following step 5, and then 5.2."
