Overview

This document describes the Mr. Christmas Alexa Compatible LED Christmas Tree, an indoor-use artificial Christmas tree with integrated LED lighting that can be controlled via Amazon Alexa voice commands or manually.

Function Description:

The Mr. Christmas Alexa Compatible LED Christmas Tree is designed to provide festive illumination with the convenience of smart home integration. Its primary function is to serve as a decorative Christmas tree with customizable LED lighting effects. Users can turn the tree ON or OFF, adjust brightness, change colors, and select various lighting modes using voice commands through an Alexa-enabled device or via a physical button on the control box. The tree offers a wide range of lighting options, including different colors and dynamic effects, to suit various preferences and occasions.

Usage Features:

Assembly:

The assembly process begins with checking the contents of the box, which include tree sections, a metal tree stand with eyebolts, a control box with a power cord and adapter, an "Ornament" with a voice-activated command list, and spare bulbs. The tree stand is assembled by opening it to form an "X" shape and inserting eyebolts, leaving room for the bottom tree section. The tree sections are then inserted into the stand in the correct order, starting with the bottom section, and the eyebolts are fully tightened to secure the tree. After assembly, it is recommended to shake the tree to extend branches and perform some shaping for the best appearance. Pole caps shipped with the tree should be saved for storage to protect the power poles.

Branch Shaping:

To achieve a full and natural look, users should start at the bottom row of branches and work their way up to the top. Individual branches should be spread out to the sides, up, and out, resembling a fan.

Power Connection:

The power cord with the adapter is attached to the control box, and the adapter is then plugged into an AC power source.

Alexa Connectivity:

To enable Alexa control, users need to download and open the "Amazon Alexa" application on their mobile device. From the settings menu, they select "Add Device," then "Christmas Tree," and follow the on-screen instructions. For setting up a second tree, users select "Second Christmas Tree." During device setup, users may be asked to scan a device barcode, which can be found on the back of the controller. Alexa will ask for clarification if a command does not target a specific tree when multiple trees are set up.

Voice Commands for Lighting Control:

The tree offers up to 55 lighting functions accessible via Alexa voice commands.

  • Turning ON/OFF: "Alexa, Turn Christmas tree: ON." or "Alexa, Turn Christmas tree: OFF."
  • Brightness Settings: "Alexa, Set Christmas tree to: High," "Alexa, Set Christmas tree to: Medium," or "Alexa, Set Christmas tree to: Low."
  • Color Options: "Alexa, Set Christmas tree to: White," "Red," "Green," "Yellow," "Blue," "Purple," "Light blue," "Starlight," or "Multi Color."
  • Light Functions (Modes): "Alexa, Set Christmas tree to: Steady," "Fade," "Flip," "Sparkle," "Twinkle," or "Trio."
  • Demo Mode: "Alexa, Turn Christmas tree Demo On."

Manual Lighting Control:

The tree also features a push button on the control box for manual control, allowing users to cycle through all 55 lighting modes without Alexa. The modes include various steady colors, fade effects, flip effects, sparkle effects, twinkle effects, and trio effects, as well as a power off option and a demo mode. The demo mode plays all 54 lighting functions for 8 seconds each.

Alexa Routines:

Alexa Routines allow for automation of the Christmas tree's functionality. Users can set custom commands (e.g., "Good Morning") to turn the tree on or off, or schedule specific times for the tree to operate (e.g., every day at 10 AM). To enable routines, users open the Alexa app, go to "Routines," select "Plus," choose "When this happens" to define the trigger, and then select "Add Action," "Smart Home," and "Christmas Tree" to configure the desired LED lighting mode.

Connectivity Troubleshooting:

  • Cannot connect to Alexa: Check Wi-Fi settings, ensure the Alexa device and tree are on the same Wi-Fi network, verify the Wi-Fi password, ensure the device is within 30 ft (9 m) of the Alexa smart speaker, and check that both the Alexa device and app have the latest software version.
  • Barcode scanning issues: Ensure sufficient light for scanning. If scanning fails, select "Don't Have a Barcode" during setup and follow on-screen instructions.
  • Tree stopped working with Alexa: Try a power cycle (unplug and re-plug). Alternatively, perform a factory reset by pressing and holding the button on the control box for 10 seconds (indicated by 3 flashes of white light), then follow the setup instructions again.
  • Only ON/OFF commands work: If the Alexa tree is part of a group, color and function selections may not work via the group name. These commands should be given using the utterance "Christmas Tree."
  • Alexa not responding to some utterances: If multiple Alexa devices have similar names, Alexa may not work. Rename one of the devices.

Maintenance Features:

Bulb Replacement:

Spare bulbs are included with the tree and can be found in a poly bag attached to the end of the light strand inside the tree. To replace a bulb (Figure 15):

  1. Grasp the plug and remove it from the receptacle.
  2. Pull the bulb and plastic base straight out of the bulb holder.
  3. Replace with a 3 Volt 0.06 Watt LED type bulb (provided with the product). If the new bulb base does not fit, straighten the leads of the burned-out bulb and gently pull it out. Then, thread the leads of the new bulb through the holes in the old base, ensuring one lead per hole. After full insertion, bend each lead up to touch the contacts inside the bulb holder.
  • Caution: Do not attempt to replace bulbs or modify the string to reduce the risk of fire or electric shock. Do not install on trees with metal needles, leaves, or branch coverings, or mount strings in a way that could damage wire insulation. This product is not a toy.

Color Sync Correction:

If a bulb gets out of color sync with the light set color selected by an Alexa command, it can be corrected by switching out the individual bulb with a replacement bulb provided.

Storage:

It is recommended to store the tree in a cool, dry location, protected from excessive exposure to heat or sunlight. The pole caps that are shipped with the trees should be saved and used for storage to protect the power poles.
