laserdiodesandspinnermotorturnoffafterauserselectableperiodofoperator
inactivity.ThisprolongsthelifeoftheRealScan74.Thedefaultnon‐activetimeis
fifteen(15)minutes,butcanbeincreased
byprogramming.Anitempassinginfront
oftheMotionDetectorcausestheRealScan74toturnon.Thismovementisthe
normalitemscanningmovement.

TheScanAdviserStatusIndicatorislocateddiagonallytotheleftsideoftheOperator
DisplayPanelbuttons.ThethreecenterLEDsturndimgreenwhentheRealScan74is
readytoreadabarcode.Whenthescannerreadsabarcode,allfiveLEDslightup
brightlyfor
aninstant.Duringpower‐up,iftheunitgoesintotheFailureMode,the
ScanAdviserStatusIndicatordisplaysadistinctLEDpatternofcolorstopointtothe
probablescannererrorcodethatisusedbythefieldengineertorepairtheunit.Voice
messagesareusedtoindicateerrors
aswell.TheScanAdviserStatusIndicatorwill
displayonedimly‐litgreenLEDinthecenterwhentheRealScan74enterssleep
mode.
WhenusingIBM‐485communications,theScanAdviserStatusIndicatorslowly
flashesared‐green‐greenpatternninetimes,thendelays,thenrepeatsindefinitely
whenthe
RealScan74doesnotdetectthe12VTRMPWRvoltagefrom theIBM
terminal.Itisstillpossibletosuccessfullyscanandweighitems withthisScan
Adviserpatterndisplayed.Possiblecausesforthisred‐green‐greenindicationmaybe
oneofthefollowing:
•
HostIBMterminalisnotturnedon.
•
InterfacecableisnotconnectedbetweenthePOSandscanner.
•
IBMport9xbeingusedbythescannerisnotgeneratingthe12VTRMPWRsignal.
•
Rarely,therecouldbeanissuewiththescannerdigitalboardnotdetectingthe
12Vcomingfromtheterminal.
