Introducing the Transport
Overview
NCR iTRAN 180es/300se/600 Operator’s Guide 1-3
Overview
1
The iTRAN 180es/300es/600 Item Processing Transport is used to process
checks and other kinds of documents. It is made up of several parts called
modules each with a different job. A document track runs through all the
modules. Rollers in this track move the documents down it from one module
to the next.
Some modules are optional and availability is dependant on the variant of
180es/300es/600 transport chosen.
The first module to your left is one of two kinds:
High Performance Hopper
Enhanced Document Feeder
High Performance Hopper

.
Documents loaded into the hopper are pushed from behind by a weighted
paddle. The paddle forces the documents into contact with a series of drive
wheels that propel the documents down the track. The document hopper can
be loaded without stopping the feeder.
The high performance hopper module consists of:
the main hopper, which holds up to 2500 documents for automated batch
processing
the tape out-sort bin, into which documents less than 102mm (4") long
are sorted
the merge hopper, which holds up to 150 control documents, such as
batch headers
the hand-drop, into which documents can be dropped one at a time
Enhanced Document Feeder
Module (Optional)
1
This module contains the hand-drop, and the hopper. In some kinds of
processing, you drop documents into the hand-drop one at a time. In others,
you place a stack of documents in the hopper, which feeds them into the
document track automatically. Your transport may have an optional journal
printer placed near the right of the hopper; it prints information about the
documents as you process them. If your transport has a merge hopper, you
place control documents (such as batch headers) into this hopper, and the
transport automatically feeds these, too, into the document track.
Image or Reader Module

The next module to your right is one of two kinds:
an image-lift/reader module – this module may read MICR or OCR
characters, but it also takes digital pictures of the documents. These
digital pictures may be displayed on your transport screen to help you
do your work.
