Introducing the Transport
Image Lift/Reader Module
NCR iTRAN 180es/300se/600 Operator’s Guide 1-15
Reader Module
1
The reader module reads information preprinted on documents in MICR
(magnetic ink character recognition) and/or OCR (optical character
recognition) letters and numbers. Use the descriptions below to figure out
what kind of equipment your reader module has.
Single-Line MICR Reader
1
The single-line MICR reader reads only magnetic ink (MICR) characters.
The transport reads both E-13B or CMC 7. You do not have to specify a font.
MICR/OCR Combination
1
The most typical reason for having both a single-line MICR reader and an
OCR reader is to process remittances, where the payment stubs may be
encoded in OCR and the checks in MICR.
Image-Lift/Reader Module
1
The image-lift/reader module captures digital images of documents. It may
also read information preprinted on documents in MICR (magnetic ink
character recognition) or OCR (optical character recognition) letters and
numbers. You can recognize this module by the shape of its cover and the
solid-colored hinged check guide where you can remove documents from
the track.
Image-Lift Camera
The image-lift camera is a camera that captures a digital image of one side
of the document. (Your module may have just one camera, for the front of
the document, or two cameras, one for the front and one for the back.)
In many item-processing applications, these images are displayed on screen
to help you do your work. In others, they may be used by the computer for
other purposes.
Red Filter
1
The red filter is required in the Reject Repair environment, and is optional
in all other environments. The filter attaches to the front image-lift camera
only, and is not an option for the rear image-lift camera. By pushing back on
the green tab and moving it to the left or to the right, the operator can select
one of two options: red filter and no filter.
The red filter option minimizes the effect of signatures and background on
all E-13B documents using the MLOCR solution in a reject repair
environment.
Either the application or the supervisor defines when the operator should
switch the filter selection.
Single-Line MICR Reader
1
The single-line MICR reader reads only magnetic ink (MICR) characters.
The transport reads both E-13B or CMC 7. You do not have to specify a font.
