How To Vacuum the transport
3
To vacuum your transport, follow the instructions below. As you vacuum,
check parts such as ribbons, drive belts, rollers, and mylar strips for wear or
damage. If a part needs replacing, and this book tells you how to replace it,
follow the instructions carefully. Otherwise, call for service.
Caution: When vacuuming, avoid touching the encoder ribbon and the graphical
endorser ink cartridges. Most cleaners won't remove the ink that comes from
the ink cartridges. It will wash off your skin gradually with soap and water,
but may stain your clothes permanently. The ink on the encoder ribbon is
easier to remove.
1 Turn off the transport.
2 Remove any documents that are in the feeder area, in the pockets, or
sitting on top of the transport.
3 Put the crevice attachment on to the vacuum.
4 Start vacuuming, starting at the hopper, moving down along the inside
of the track. Pick up any dust that you can reach, but do not force the
tool against any parts of the transport.
5 If your transport includes a reader module, retract the left rear track guide
when you get to it, and vacuum down inside.
If your transport includes a reader/image-lift/stager module and/or a
downstream ILM, DO NOT try to vacuum inside the track guides when
you reach it. Instead, vacuum any debris that the brush attachment
missed, then close the module’s cover.
6 Go on and vacuum the pockets.
