Do you have a question about the Noctua NF-A14 5V PWM and is the answer not in the manual?
The Noctua NF-A14 5V PWM is a premium cooling component designed in Austria, renowned for its superb quietness, exceptional performance, and thorough quality. This 140mm fan is meticulously optimized, incorporating advanced aerodynamic design measures and features from Noctua's larger, award-winning models to deliver superior quiet cooling performance. Each fan undergoes a rigorous quality control process, being double-checked for flawless operation before leaving the factory, ensuring that users can experience the research, attention, and care invested in its creation.
The NF-A14 5V PWM is designed to provide efficient and quiet cooling for various devices. As a 5V PWM fan, it offers pulse-width modulation based speed control, allowing for precise adjustment of fan speed to optimize the balance between cooling performance and noise levels. It can also be connected to standard 3-pin fan headers, in which case it will operate at full speed. This versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of applications, from custom PC builds to other electronic devices requiring active cooling. The fan's premium grade SSO2 bearing is fully sealed to prevent the ingress of fine dust particles, ensuring flawless operation and a long lifespan.
The NF-A14 5V PWM offers flexible installation options. It can replace an existing fan, utilizing the original mounting screws or mechanisms. Alternatively, users can employ the supplied mounting screws or silicone anti-vibration mounts for installation. When using the NA-AV1 anti-vibration mounts, the mounts are first pulled through the case's mounting holes, then the fan is placed onto the mounts, and finally, the mounts are pulled through the fan's mounting holes.
For power connectivity, the fan comes with a 4-pin PWM fan connector. It's crucial to note that being a 5V PWM fan, it must not be run at 12V, as this will damage the fan. Therefore, it should not be connected to typical 12V PC mainboard fan headers unless specifically designed for 5V operation. For users wishing to power the fan via USB sources such as devices with USB host ports, power banks, or USB power supplies, the included NA-AC7 USB power adaptor cable can be used. It is important to use the NA-AC7 exclusively with the NF-A14 5V PWM, as using it with other fans may risk damaging sensitive USB host devices.
The fan features a short 20cm primary cable to minimize cable clutter in typical applications. If a longer cable is required, the supplied 30cm extension (NA-EC1) can be added.
The included OmniJoin adaptor set provides a solution for connecting the NF-A14 5V PWM to proprietary fan headers. This involves a careful process of identifying the individual leads of both the OmniJoin adaptor and the original fan. The OmniJoin adaptor uses black for ground (GND) and red for +5V. Users must correctly match the adaptor's black lead with the original GND lead and the adaptor's red cable with the original +5V lead. While many fan cables share similar colors, it's essential to verify the correct identification of GND and +5V leads, referring to the device's manual or contacting the manufacturer if in doubt.
Once the leads are identified, the connector of the original fan is cut off, ensuring at least 2-3 cm of cable remains. Then, one of the supplied 3M Skotchlok™ connectors is used to join the GND lead of the original cable and the black lead of the OmniJoin adaptor. Both leads must be fully inserted and pushed all the way back into the connector. Flat nose pliers are then used to push down the white button of the Skotchlok™ connector until it is fully depressed and not jammed. This process is repeated for the +5V lead. After the original fan's cable is securely fixed to the OmniJoin adaptor using the Skotchlok™ connectors, the NF-A14 5V PWM can be connected to the adaptor for use in the device.
To ensure maximum performance and longevity, regular cleaning of the NF-A14 5V PWM is recommended. This can be done using a duster, a slightly moist tissue, or canned air. Care must be taken not to apply excessive force to the fan to prevent any damage. Vacuum cleaners should be avoided as they may exert excessive force. The fan is not designed to be disassembled by the user; attempting to remove the impeller from the frame will break the sealing of the bearing and void the warranty. The fully sealed SSO2 bearing is a key component in ensuring flawless operation over many years by preventing the entry of fine dust particles.
Noctua stands behind its products with a 6-year warranty and offers direct, fast, and straightforward RMA service, aiming to provide the highest possible level of reliability and convenience. Should any problems arise with the NF-A14 5V PWM, users are encouraged to contact Noctua's support team.
