How NFC works
As a short-range wireless connectivity technology, Near Field Communi-
cation offers safe yet simple and intuitive communication between
electronic devices. Users of NFC-enabled devices can simply point or
touch their devices to other NFC-compatible elements in their environ-
ment to communicate with them: to gather or share information or
multimedia data, to make payments to connect.
Communication between two NFC-compatible devices occurs when
they are brought within a few centimeters of one another. The short
transmission range makes the NFC transactions safe, and allows the
user to controll the usage. NFC operates at 13.56 MHz, and transfers data
at up to 424 Kbits/second. Nokia participates actively in developing
NFC standards further through the open NFC Forum, where Nokia is a
founding member together with Philips and Sony.
Software Development Kit for Nokia 6131 NFC available through
Forum Nokia. Use the SDK to develop and emulate Java™ applications
(MIDlets) for the Nokia 6131 NFC.
