Do you have a question about the Obelink VIERA 280 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document is a multi-language manual for the Obelink Viera 280/390 awning, providing instructions for setup, packing, and maintenance. The manual is available in Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Polish.

Function Description:

The Obelink Viera 280/390 is an inflatable awning designed for camping, offering an extended living space attached to a caravan or motorhome. It provides shelter and additional room for campers. The manual details the steps for pitching and dismantling the awning, as well as comprehensive maintenance guidelines to ensure its longevity and optimal performance.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual does not explicitly list detailed technical specifications such as dimensions, weight, or specific materials used for the Viera 280/390 model. However, it does discuss general material properties and their expected lifespan:

  • Polyester: Approximately 10 to 20 weeks of use.
  • Cotton/Polyester Blend: Approximately 30 to 40 weeks of use.
  • Cotton: Approximately 35 to 45 weeks of use.

It is noted that cotton, cotton/polyester, and polyester materials are not suitable for seasonal camping (i.e., continuous use for four weeks or longer). The window film material is described as durable, UV-resistant, and able to withstand temperatures between -25°C and +60°C. Inflatable tents, such as the Viera, are recommended to be inflated to between 7 and 9 PSI (0.5 - 0.62 BAR), with the exact pressure adjustable based on ambient temperature. Most inflatable tents come with a manometer for reading air pressure, which only displays the pressure when the pump cylinder is pressed down.

Usage Features:

  • Setup:
    • A trial setup is recommended before first use to familiarize oneself with the process and ensure all parts are present.
    • Pay attention to how the tent is packed when unpacking to facilitate correct repacking later.
    • Choose a flat, even pitch with minimal stones, branches, or other objects. Avoid pitching directly under trees and, if possible, orient the rear of the tent against the wind.
    • An additional ground sheet (e.g., an eco-ground cloth) under the tent's own groundsheet is recommended, which should be water-permeable.
    • Standard pegs are suitable for grassy ground; for harder ground, rock pegs may be necessary.
  • Zippers:
    • Ensure zippers are closed during setup.
    • Handle zippers carefully.
    • Cross-tension zippers on doors where possible to reduce strain.
    • Treat zippers periodically with PTFE or silicone spray to keep them running smoothly.
  • Condensation/Leakage:
    • Cotton/Polyester Tents: May initially mist through, especially at seams, until the yarn swells after getting wet. Light stains may appear on wet tents but are harmless.
    • Polyester Tents: Condensation is common due to the non-breathable nature of polyester. It can accumulate significant amounts of water, often mistaken for leaks. Seams are taped, but difficult areas (e.g., where extra loops are sewn or multiple fabric strips meet) may not be 100% waterproof. Seam sealant is recommended for these areas.
    • Reducing Condensation:
      • Avoid using cooking appliances or gas heaters inside the tent, as cooking generates significant condensation.
      • Regularly clean the tent with a soft brush and lukewarm water, as dirt promotes mold growth.
      • Ensure daily ventilation by keeping ventilation openings permanently open.
      • Always pack the tent completely dry to prevent mold.
      • In warm climates, keep the tent closed during the day and ventilate only in the evening when temperatures drop.
      • Store wet clothing, towels, and shoes outside the tent or in sealed plastic bags if stored inside.
      • Avoid cooking inside the tent.
      • Avoid gas and oil heaters inside the tent.
  • Inflatable Tents:
    • Inflate air tubes to 7-9 PSI (0.5-0.62 BAR). Adjust pressure based on ambient temperature. Most models include a manometer.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • After use, ensure the tent is completely dry before packing to prevent mold.
    • Remove dirt with a soft, unused brush and clean water.
    • Never wash the tent in a washing machine or have it dry-cleaned.
    • Store the tent in a dry, well-ventilated place.
    • Specific Stain Removal:
      • Bird Droppings: Remove as quickly as possible with plenty of water and a cloth/soft brush. Alternatively, let them harden and scrape off with a spoon, then clean with water and a cloth/soft brush.
      • Resin: Let the resin stain harden (with an ice cube if necessary), then carefully scrape off with a spoon.
      • Berry Stains: Clean with water and a cloth/soft brush.
      • Coffee: Blot dry with a clean, unused cloth, then rinse with lukewarm water.
      • Candle Wax: Let it harden (with an ice cube if necessary), then carefully scrape off with a spoon.
      • Grease: Grease stains are almost impossible to remove and can affect waterproofing. Maintain sufficient distance between cooking areas and the tent. If a stain occurs, blot with paper towels; do not rub.
      • Dust: Remove with a soft brush.
    • For heavily soiled tents, contact Obelink for specialized cleaning products and re-impregnation advice.
  • Window Film:
    • Current window film uses barium/zinc as a solvent, which can cause slight glitter, visible creases, and hairline cracks. This is currently unavoidable.
    • The film is a plastic material, so the fabric structure of the tent may be faintly visible through it.
    • While 100% uniform transparency cannot be guaranteed due to plasticizer composition changes, Obelink's window film is of high quality, durable, UV-protected, and temperature-resistant.
  • Mold:
    • Mold formation can occur due to humidity, nutrient sources, and temperature. Cotton and cotton/polyester tents are more susceptible than synthetic materials.
    • The longer the tent is used, the higher the risk of mold, especially after four weeks of continuous use.
    • Cleaning tips for existing mold:
      • Start with a soft brush or sponge and lukewarm water.
      • Use a specialized tent cleaning product (consult Obelink).
      • Be aware that cleaning may affect waterproofing, so re-impregnation is recommended.
      • Never use harsh household cleaners or green soap, as they leave a greasy residue that promotes mold and hinders re-impregnation.
    • Mold cannot be completely removed and will eventually spread and damage the fabric. Cleaning efforts may only slightly extend the tent's lifespan.
  • Sun and Discoloration:
    • UV rays damage most fabrics, especially polyester and nylon, leading to fading and quality degradation. Cotton and cotton/polyester are more UV-resistant.
    • To prevent discoloration: pitch in the shade, avoid prolonged direct sunlight, and periodically treat with an impregnating agent to add a protective UV layer.
  • Impregnation:
    • New tents do not require immediate impregnation as they are factory-treated. UV exposure during use degrades the factory treatment.
    • Periodic re-impregnation is recommended to extend lifespan, ideally every 8 weeks of use. Clean the tent thoroughly before re-impregnation.
    • Contact Obelink for advice on suitable impregnating products.
    • Polyester tents have taped seams for waterproofing. If the tape detaches due to prolonged sun exposure, remove loose tape and apply seam sealer (available from Obelink).
  • Warranty:
    • A 24-month warranty covers material and manufacturing defects.
    • Defects due to material/manufacturing faults will be repaired or exchanged.
    • The warranty does not cover: yarn thickening, color variations between fabric strips, weather-induced discoloration, condensation, minor imperfections in mosquito netting, wear and tear, or mold formation.
  • Safety Precautions (Fire):
    • Do not use cooking or heating appliances inside the tent.
    • Do not hang lamps near side walls, the roof, or curtains.
    • Read safety instructions for appliances used in the tent.
    • Do not allow children to play near active appliances.
    • Keep passages clear.
    • Check camping site regulations and safety rules.
