NOTICE THERMOSTAT PROPORTIONNEL
Thermotronic

Overview

The "Thermotronic" (model TS-TT) is a highly precise proportional thermostat designed for accurate temperature control in various applications, particularly those requiring stable thermal environments such as incubators. This device operates on a proportional control principle, meaning it delivers full power to the heating element until the set temperature is nearly reached. Once close to the target, it transitions to emitting power pulses to maintain a very consistent temperature. These pulses are visually indicated by a red LED lamp on the unit's casing.

Function Description:

The core function of the "Thermotronic" is to maintain a precise and stable temperature. When initially switched on, the heating element receives 100% power to quickly bring the system up to temperature. As the temperature approaches the user-defined set point, the thermostat begins to modulate power delivery by sending intermittent voltage pulses to the heater. This pulsing action ensures that the temperature remains remarkably constant, preventing overshoots and undershoots that can occur with simpler on/off thermostats. The red LED lamp on the unit provides a visual confirmation of these power pulses, allowing users to observe the thermostat's active regulation.

The device boasts an impressive accuracy, maintaining temperature within a narrow range of 0.05 to 0.08 degrees Celsius (equivalent to 5/100 to 8/100 of a degree). This high level of precision is crucial for sensitive applications where even small temperature fluctuations can have significant impacts.

To achieve and maintain this precision, several factors are critical. If the expected accuracy is not met, potential causes include:

  • Thermometer/Sensor Placement: The external thermometer used for verification might not be positioned at the same location as the NTC sensor of the thermostat, leading to discrepancies in readings.
  • Distance between Heater and Sensor: A large distance between the heating element and the temperature sensor can introduce delays in feedback and reduce control effectiveness.
  • Heater Power: Using a heating element with excessive power for the application can make precise control difficult, leading to temperature overshoots or instability.
  • Insulation: Poor insulation of the enclosure (e.g., an incubator cabinet) can result in heat loss and make it challenging for the thermostat to maintain a stable temperature.

Usage Features:

The "Thermotronic" is equipped with two control knobs for user interaction:

  • Control 1 (Left Knob): This knob is used for setting the overall temperature range. It allows users to select a target temperature within a broad range of 28 to 42 degrees Celsius. This is the primary adjustment for the desired operating temperature.
  • Control 2 (Right Knob - Fine Regulation): This knob provides fine-tuning capabilities for precise adjustments. It offers a narrow adjustment range of less than 1 degree Celsius, allowing users to make small corrections to achieve the exact desired temperature after the initial setting with Control 1.

Connection and Setup:

The thermostat comes with three distinct cables for various connections:

  1. Power Cord (2 meters, with plug): This cable is used to connect the thermostat to the main power supply (220-240 Volt AC).
  2. Sensor Cable (thin, round, with NTC sensor): This cable houses the small NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) sensor at its end. The sensor is responsible for accurately measuring the ambient temperature.
  3. Heater Connection Cable (flat, ~1 meter, with 2 or 3 wires): This cable is designed for direct connection to the heating element. It typically includes blue and brown wires for the heating load.

Installation Steps:

  1. Connect to Heater: Connect the flat cable (point 3 above) directly to the heating element.
  2. Sensor Placement: Position the NTC sensor correctly within the controlled environment. For incubators, it is crucial to place the sensor near the eggs. In still air incubators, the sensor should be at egg level. For forced-air incubators (with a fan), placing the sensor near the eggs is also recommended for optimal temperature sensing.
  3. Power Connection: Plug the 2-meter power cord into a standard 220-240 Volt AC power outlet.
  4. Initial Temperature Setting: Set the fine regulation knob (Control 2) to its middle position (50%). Then, use the main temperature setting knob (Control 1, left knob) to set the desired temperature.
  5. Fine Adjustment: Use the fine regulation knob (Control 2) to make any minor corrections needed to achieve the exact target temperature.

Important Note: The thermostat requires a connected heater or bulbs to function correctly and for the LED lamp to indicate pulsing. Without a load, the LED will not show activity.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Operating Voltage: 220/240 Volt (AC)
  • Maximum Load: 400 Watt
  • Sensor Voltage: Protected (ensures sensor longevity and reliability)
  • Temperature Control Range (Control 1): 28 - 42 degrees Celsius
  • Fine Regulation Range (Control 2): Less than 1 degree Celsius
  • Accuracy: 0.05 - 0.08 degrees Celsius

Maintenance Features:

The manual emphasizes responsible end-of-life management for the device and its components:

End-of-Life Treatment for Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE):

  • Selective Sorting: The device, its packaging, and accessories must be selectively sorted and deposited at appropriate collection points after their useful life.
  • Local Collection Information: Users should contact their local municipality for information on available collection methods for obsolete electrical equipment.
  • Environmental Preservation: Adhering to these procedures promotes the recycling of WEEE and contributes to environmental preservation. Users are explicitly advised not to dispose of used electrical equipment in general waste bins.
