RADIATOR
PRESSURE
CAP
The radiator cap, a 15-18 psi pressure
type,
must be installed tightlY, otherwise coolant
may be lost and damage
to
engine may
result from overheating. Radiator pressure
caps
should be checked periodically for
proper operation.
THERMOSTAT:"" The cooling system
is
protected
and controlled
by
a
thermostat
installed
in
the
engine
coolant
outlet
to
maintain
a
satisfactory
operating
temperature
of
the
engine. This
thermostat
(with a
temperature
control
rating
of
195°
F.)
is
designed
for
continuous
use
through
both
winter and summer and need
not
be
cha nged seasona
lIy.
AIR
CONDITIONING
IMPORTANT:
Have
a
thorough
service
inspection
performed
before
operating
the
unit
at
the
beginning
of
the
cooling
season,
or
as
otherwise
indicated
as
follows:
Check refrigerant and replenish as
necessary.
Over
the
per iod
of
a year,
the
system can lose refrigerant
through
normal
operation
.
Check and adjust compressor belt
tension. On
the
Tempmatic,
the
charcoal
filter should
be replaced every
24
months.
Remove
road
accumulation from
condenser (bugs, etc.) every engine
oil
change or more
often,
if
necessary.
AIR
CLEANER
The air cleaner
is
a disposable
type
element. Replace
the
element
as specified
in
Maintenance Schedule folder. Do
not
wash, oil,
or
clean with air hose.
The
air
cleaner
will require more
frequent
service
under
dusty
conditions. Your Oldsmobile
Dealer
can advise you on
the
proper
interval. When replacement
is
necessary,
an
AC
ACron
air
fi
Iter
element
is
recommended.
CAUTION:
Do
not
remove
the
engine
air
cleaner
unless
temporary
removal
is
necessary
during
repair
or
maintenance
of
the
vehicle.
When
the
air
cleaner
is
removed
backfiring
can
cause
fire
in
the
engine
compartment.
CARBURETOR
To maintain maximum engine performance
and
fuel
economy,
carburetor
idle speeds
should be checked as recommended
in
the
Maintenance Schedule folder.
If
engine
stalls, idles
too
fast
or
idles roughly, it
should be
taken
to
your dealer for
adjustment. The
carburetor
fuel inlet filter
should
be replaced
in
accordance with
recommendations
in
the
Maintenance
Schedu
