The OTT-JAKOB POWER-CHECK 2 is a pull-force measurement system designed for industrial environments, specifically for measuring the pull-force in power drawbars. It utilizes exchangeable adapters, allowing for universal use with various steep taper and HSK systems. The system integrates the pull-force measuring mechanism directly into its base unit, eliminating the need for an external power connection during operation.
Function Description:
The POWER-CHECK 2 measures the pull-force after the clamping process, logging this force internally. During manual operation, the measured pull-force is displayed directly on the device. For automatic operation, the device can be used from a tool magazine. An internal motion detector switches the device from standby to operational mode when it is automatically transported into the clamping unit, ensuring long battery life. The measured values are stored internally and can be logged via a USB interface using the Power-Check 2 PC-Software. A wireless version of the system is available, which transmits measuring values to a receiving device. The system also accounts for manufacturing tolerances of the spindle and tool, offering an adjustable range to ensure accurate measurements even when part dimensions deviate from nominal.
Important Technical Specifications:

- Force Limit: 130% of maximal value.
- Break Force: 200% of maximal value.
- Measuring System: Strain gauge.
- Charging Process: Via USB interface.
- Weight: Max. 1.5 kg.
- Battery Lifetime:
- Automatic mode: 2 months / 600 measurings.
- Permanent measuring mode: 1 week (measuring interval: 5 seconds).
- Power Supply: Li-Ion, 5V DC 500mA.
- PC Software: Compatible with Windows 2000, XP, and 7 (32-bit version).
Usage Features:
- Display: Measured values are shown in kilo newtons (kN). The battery charge condition (0-100%) is briefly displayed upon power-on.
- Operation Modes:
- Manual Operation: Allows reading pull-force from the display, with values stored internally. A "drag indicator" display shows the maximum value until cleared.
- Automatic Operation: Enables use from a tool magazine. The device automatically switches from standby to operational mode upon motion and stores measured values. Spindle rotation with the measuring device is not allowed in this mode.
- Continuous Measuring Mode: Performs a defined number of measurements at a set time interval (factory default: 10 measurements at 0.5-second intervals). The number and time interval can be adjusted via PC software.
- Data Storage: Internal memory stores thousands of measurements, including consecutive number, ID, date, time, measured value [kN], and sleeve position.
- Measured Values Display: The last 20 measurements can be displayed directly on the device in a stack (stack number, ID, measured value). Older values are deleted as new ones are added.
- Configuration Menu: Allows adjustment of settings such as identification number (ID), activation threshold for the motion detector, measuring duration in automatic mode, and display brightness.
- Adjustable Range: The adjustable sleeve allows fine-tuning the adapter length to account for tool and spindle tolerances. This adjustment is possible only in a released condition and not with adapters featuring a gripper groove.
- Battery Status: An LED "bat low" indicator signals when recharging is needed.
Maintenance Features:
- Charging: The device is charged via a USB PC interface or a wall power supply. Charging time is approximately 4 hours for 75% charge and less than 10 hours for 100% charge. Charging can be interrupted at any time and switches off automatically.
- Deactivation in Event of Failures: The device can be forced to deactivate by touching a deactivation contact with a magnet after removing the cap. Stored measured values remain preserved.
- Inspection: Recommended yearly inspection by OTT-JAKOB, and after any fall or similar incident.
- Disposal: The device must be returned to OTT-JAKOB Spanntechnik GmbH for professional disposal in accordance with WEEE regulations. Users are not permitted to dispose of the POWER-CHECK 2 themselves.
- PC Software: The Power-Check 2 PC software allows adjusting system parameters, reading, and exporting stored measured values. It also contains the driver for charging the device's battery. Measured values can be exported as .txt files (comma or dot separated) for analysis in spreadsheet programs. The software also allows clearing the internal memory of the device.
The POWER-CHECK 2 is designed for precision, emphasizing careful handling and adherence to specified technical values and limits for accurate operation. Commissioning, adjustments, and operation should only be performed by qualified personnel.
