1. Mounting and connections
1.1 Mounting of actuator depends on the options s

2. Function
Pressurized fluid is applied to a circular piston inside a
c
ylin
d
e
r
which pushes the rod. This action moves the piston g
e
n
e
r
a
t
ing
linear motion. This linear motion and force is transmitted to
t
h
e
application by the rod.
Where
specified, the sensor
p
rovi
d
e
s
a signal which indicates stroke position. This signal may
b
e
analogue or
d
igi
t
a
l.
3. General
conditions
of use
These
general recommendations for the correct and safe use o
f
the product must be observed at all
t
im
e
s:
– Comply with the limits specified in the
c
a
t
a
logu
e.
–
Ensure
the hydraulic fluid supplied meets the s
p
e
ci
fi
e
d
cleanliness level.
–
Ensure
the correct seal class has been specified for
t
h
e
hydraulic fluid us
e
d
.
–
Ensure
that the actuator is suitable for the
p
r
e
v
a
iling
ambient
c
ondi
t
ions.
– Comply with the national and local safety laws
a
n
d
r
e
gu
la
t
ions.
– Remove all transport packaging. All packaging material
used is r
e
c
y
c
l
a
b
l
e.
– Maintain the fluid specified for the complete service life o
f
the
p
rodu
c
t.
4. Installation
M
ec
h
a
ni
cal
– Check that the cylinder model code meets
t
he
specification r
e
quir
e
d
.
– Handle the cylinder with care in order to prevent damage
to the cylinder tube and piston rod which could r
e
d
u
c
e
reliability and safe o
p
e
r
a
t
ion.
– Mount the cylinder so that all control elements are always
ac
c
e
ssi
b
le
.
– Mount the cylinder so that there is no mis
a
lignm
e
n
t
between the rod and its mating fi
tt
ing.
– Tighten screws, lock nuts and accessories to the
t
or
q
u
e
s
specified in the maintenance manual.
Hydraulic
– Tube and hose fittings are to be screwed directly into
t
h
e
pressure ports of the cylinder end
c
a
p
s.
– Fill the cylinder slowly in order to prevent un
c
on
t
roll
e
d
mov
e
m
e
nt
s.
Electric
If a sensor is fitted, ensure that the cable is not energized
w
h
e
n
attaching the cable to the sensor
c
o
nne
c
t
or.
5. Commissioning
Complete System
Slowly fill the complete hydraulic system with oil in order
t
o
prevent any uncontrolled movements. During the filling
operation, the system and/or cylinder must be bled of air
a
t
suitable
p
oints.
Hydraulic Cylinder
–
Make sure that the
area
traversed by the rod and
a
tt
a
c
h
e
d
mass is clear of personnel or any obstructing
b
o
d
i
e
s.
– Start a test run.
– If necessary adjust the cushion screw to achieve o
p
t
im
a
l
performance.
The
purpose of the cushion adjustment is
t
o
ensure that the cylinder achieves full stroke without s
t
riking
the cap too h
a
r
d
.
– If fitted, use the stroke adjusters to achieve the s
t
rok
e
required. It is recommended that hydraulic pressure shoul
d
be released before making
a
d
jus
t
m
e
nt
s.
– CAUTION: During all adjustments ensure that
t
h
e
operator is clear of the
area
traversed by the moving mass.
6. Op
e
r
at
i
o
n
6.1 Make sure that the
area
traversed by the moving mass is
clear of personnel or any obstructing bodies. Only handle
the cylinder when all movement has
c
ea
s
e
d
.
6.2
Ensure
that the oil and ambient temperature is within
t
h
e
temperature range of the cylinder fi
tt
e
d
.
6.3 Make sure that the pressure indicated on the model plate is
not
e
x
c
eed
ed.
7.
M

ce
7.1
The
cylinder must be regularly checked for leaks. If seals
are leaking they must be replaced according to
t
he
maintenance

7.2
Ensure
the hydraulic fluid supplied meets the s

cleanliness level. Filtration to

Class 17

ions.
