Usage Features

  • Residential Home Use Only: The product is specifically designed for private, residential use and is not intended for public areas such as schools, churches, nurseries, day cares, or parks.
  • Adult Supervision Required: Continuous adult supervision is mandatory during play to prevent serious injuries.
  • Level Ground Installation: The playset must be placed on level ground to reduce tipping hazards and prevent surfacing materials from washing away.
  • Obstruction-Free Safety Zone: A minimum 6-foot (1.8m) clearance from any obstructions (e.g., garages, fences, trees, walls, electrical wires) is required around the playset.
  • Shock-Absorbing Surfacing: Installation over concrete, asphalt, dirt, grass, or carpet is prohibited. Shock-absorbing material (e.g., wood mulch/chips, engineered wood fiber, sand, pea gravel, rubber tiles) must be installed under and around the playset to a depth suitable for the equipment height, as per ASTM Specification F 1292 and CPSC guidelines.
  • Anchoring: The playset must be anchored to the ground using a minimum of four anchors (one for each corner), installed at an angle for best stability and at or below the surfacing level to prevent tripping.
  • Clothing and Helmet Restrictions: Children should not wear loose-fitting clothing, ponchos, hoods, scarves, capes, necklaces, items with draw-strings, cords, or ties, or bike/sport helmets while using the playset, as these increase the risk of entanglement and strangulation.
  • Footwear: Children should wear well-fitting, full-foot enclosing footwear. Open-toe or heel footwear (sandals, flip-flops, clogs) is not permitted.
  • Safe Play Practices: Children should be taught to sit with their full weight in the center of the swing seat, not to get off rides while in motion, not to twist swing chains/ropes, and not to climb on wet equipment. Rough play and unintended use are prohibited.
  • Integration with Playsets: The monkey bars are designed to attach to specific Petit Seal playsets (Swing Set Deluxe, Play Deck XXL). Instructions detail how to integrate the monkey bars, including the need to install balusters under the monkey bar opening for safety and, in some cases, to remove existing ladders or slides from underneath.

Maintenance Features

  • Regular Inspections:
    • Beginning of Play Season: Check metal parts for rust (sand and repaint if found), inspect and tighten all hardware (do not overtighten on wood), check for sharp edges/protruding screw threads (add washers if needed), lubricate metallic moving parts, check ground stakes for looseness/damage, check protective coverings on bolts/pipes/edges/corners, reinstall swings/ropes/rides if removed, check all moving parts for wear/rust/deterioration, check rope tightness, and check wood members for deterioration/splintering.
    • Twice a Month During Play Season: Inspect hardware for tightness, check for sharp edges/protruding screw threads, check shock-absorbing surfacing depth and for foreign objects, and check protective coverings.
    • Once a Month During Play Season: Lubricate metallic moving parts, and check swing seats/ropes/chains/attachments for fraying/wear/corrosion.
    • End of Play Season: Remove swings and store indoors if temperatures drop below 32°F (0°C) to prolong life and prevent plastic parts from becoming brittle. Rake and check depth of loose-fill surfacing materials.
  • Wood Maintenance:
    • Weathering: The manual explains that wood is susceptible to natural weathering (checking, warping, fading) due to moisture and sunlight, which does not affect structural strength.
    • Protective Coating: The wood is factory-coated with a water repellent or stain. Annual reapplication of a water repellent or stain is recommended to decrease water absorption and reduce tension in the wood, thus minimizing weathering.
    • Splintering: Sand down splinters as required.
  • Warning Labels: Owners are responsible for maintaining the legibility of all warning labels.
  • Disposal: When disposing of the playset, it must be disassembled to prevent unreasonable hazards, and local waste ordinances should be followed.
  • Warranty: Swiss Walterli (dba. Petit Seal) offers a Lifetime Warranty on all wooden components (excluding surface cracks, knotholes, and knots) and a Two-Year Warranty on chains, brackets, plates, screws, slides, swing seats, gliders, climbing rocks, telescopes, hand grips, tarps, and ground anchors. Missing or damaged parts must be reported within 45 days of delivery with proof of purchase.
