Introduction
This guide describes the syntax and structure of the Health Level Seven (HL7)
messages used for patient records that are exported from Efficia
®
CM Series monitors.
Overview
The Efficia CM Series Patient Monitors can export patient data to a receiving system
(HL7 Interface server) and then forward the data to an Electronic Health Records (EHR)
system, or send the data directly to the EHR system.
The exported data includes:
• Vital signs measurements
• All patient identifiers except age
• High and low physiological alarms
The Efficia CM Series monitor can be configured to export patient data to a receiving
system on your network using one of the following connections:
• A wired Local Area Network (LAN) connection
• A wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) connection
• An RS-232 serial connection using the optional USB to RS-232 serial interface
adapter

Data Export on an Efficia Central Network
If the monitor is connected to an Efficia Central network, patient data is sent from the
connected monitor to the Efficia Central and then exported from the Efficia Central to
the receiving system on the hospital LAN network. For information about connecting a
monitor to the Efficia Central network, enabling the Data Export function, and
configuring the receiving system’s network settings, see the Efficia CM Series Central
Installation and Configuration Guide.
Note — The Efficia CM monitor serial port cannot be used to connect to a Efficia
Central. The serial port is for data export to an EHR server only.
