This document describes the Philips S99xx/S97xx shaver, a versatile grooming appliance designed for a comfortable and efficient shaving experience. It includes various click-on attachments for different grooming needs and is supported by the SmartClean system for automated cleaning and charging.
Function Description
The Philips S99xx/S97xx is primarily a cordless electric shaver with a click-on shaving unit (6) for close shaves. It offers personalized settings (15) for comfort, dynamic, or efficiency shaving modes, adjustable via '+' and '-' buttons (16). Beyond shaving, the device can be transformed into a multi-groomer with various click-on attachments:
- Cleansing brush attachment (2): Used with a protection cap (1), this attachment helps cleanse the face with warm water and cleansing cream, removing oil and dirt for healthier skin. It is recommended for use before shaving for easier and more hygienic results.
- Beard styler attachment (4): This attachment comes with a comb (3) for styling beards at different length settings (1-5mm). It can also be used without the comb for contouring beards, moustaches, sideburns, or necklines.
- Trimmer attachment (5): Ideal for grooming sideburns and moustaches.
The shaver is suitable for both dry and wet shaving, including use with shaving foam or gel. It is waterproof, allowing for use in the bath or shower and cleaning under the tap.
The SmartClean system (18) is an integral part of the device's functionality, providing automated cleaning, drying, and charging. It uses a cleaning cartridge (26) and features a cap (19), on/off button (20), cleaning symbol (21), drying symbol (22), progress bar (23), and ready symbol (24).
Important Technical Specifications
- Power: The shaver operates cordlessly and is powered by a rechargeable battery.
- Charging: Charging takes approximately 1 hour and provides up to 50 minutes of shaving time. The battery charge percentage (14) and charge symbol (13) are displayed. A quick charge feature provides enough power for one shave when the battery symbol flashes white more quickly.
- Adapter: The adapter (27) is equipped with an automatic voltage selector, suitable for mains voltages ranging from 100 to 240 volts, transforming it to a safe low voltage of less than 24 volts.
- Noise Level: Maximum noise level is Lc = 69dB(A).
- Waterproof: The shaver is waterproof and suitable for wet use and cleaning under the tap. The SmartClean system, however, should not be immersed in water or rinsed under the tap.
- Shaving Heads: For optimal performance, shaving heads should be replaced every two years with original SH90 Philips shaving heads.
Usage Features
- Display (S99XX/S97XX): The display shows the battery charge percentage (14), charge symbol (13), travel lock symbol (11), cleaning reminder (12), replacement reminder (10), and an exclamation mark (9) for blocked shaving heads or overheating.
- Personal Settings: Users can choose between comfort, dynamic, or efficiency settings for their shaving experience.
- Charging: The shaver can be charged directly with the adapter (27) or by placing it in the SmartClean system (18).
- Travel Lock: The shaver can be locked (11) to prevent accidental activation during travel. This is activated by pressing the on/off button (7) for 3 seconds.
- Skin Adaptation Period: A 3-week adaptation period is recommended for new users to allow skin and beard to adjust to the new shaving system.
- Wet Shaving: The shaver can be used with shaving foam or gel for a wet shave.
- Click-on Attachments: Easily attach and detach the trimmer, beard styler, and cleansing brush for versatile grooming.
- Trimmer: Pull off the shaving unit (6) and click on the trimmer attachment (5).
- Beard Styler: Pull off the shaving unit (6) and click on the beard styler attachment (4). The comb (3) can be attached or removed for different styling options.
- Cleansing Brush: Pull off the shaving unit (6) and click on the cleansing brush attachment (2).
Maintenance Features
- Cleaning Reminder: The cleaning reminder (12) flashes after use to prompt cleaning.
- SmartClean System: This system automates cleaning and drying.
- Preparation: Insert the small plug (28) into the SmartClean system (18) and the adapter (27) into the wall socket. Open the system, pull the seal off a new cleaning cartridge (26), and place it in the system.
- Operation: Place the shaver upside down in the holder (1), tilt it backwards, and press down the top cap (19) to connect. Press the on/off button (20) on the SmartClean system to start the cleaning program.
- Rinsing Phase: Takes approximately 10 minutes, indicated by the cleaning symbol (21) and progress bar (23).
- Drying Phase: Takes approximately 4 hours, indicated by the drying symbol (22) and progress bar (23).
- Completion: The ready symbol (24) lights up, and the battery symbol (13) indicates full charge.
- Cartridge Replacement: Replace the cleaning cartridge (26) when the replacement symbol (17) flashes orange or when cleaning results are unsatisfactory.
- Manual Cleaning (Under the Tap):
- Shaver: Switch off, rinse the shaving unit (6) under warm water, pull off the shaving head holder, rinse it, shake off excess water, and let it dry. Reattach the holder.
- Thorough Cleaning: Remove the shaving head holder, then use the retaining ring holder (29) to turn and lift off the retaining rings and shaving heads. Clean cutters and guards under the tap. Reassemble, ensuring projections fit into recesses, and reattach retaining rings.
- Trimmer Attachment: Switch on, rinse under warm water, shake off excess water, and let dry. Lubricate teeth with sewing machine oil every six months.
- Beard Styler Attachment: Pull off the comb (3), rinse both the attachment and comb under warm water, shake off excess water, and let dry. Lubricate teeth with sewing machine oil every six months.
- Cleansing Brush Attachment: Switch off, detach the brush head from the base, clean both parts with hot water and soap, and dry with a towel.
- Storage: Store the shaver in the supplied pouch (30) after ensuring it is dry. Place the protection cap (1) on the cleansing brush attachment to prevent dirt accumulation.
- Replacement Reminder: The replacement reminder (10) lights up, and arrows flash white, with a beep, to indicate when shaving heads need replacement. After replacing, reset the shaver by pressing the on/off button (7) for 7 seconds.
- Battery Removal: The rechargeable battery should only be removed when discarding the shaver, ensuring it is completely empty. This process involves disassembling the shaver with a screwdriver.
