LONG TERM STORAGE AND DISINFECTION
1. Disassemble Meta Bottle top and bottom halves by twisting the hard
top counterclockwise while holding the flexible bottom securely.
2. Once the bottle halves are disassembled, turn the hard top upside
down, exposing its underside.
1. Disassemble the lower, flexible half of the bottle from the top half.
2. With the lower half of the bottle, scoop water out of the water source.
NOTE: Always filter water from the cleanest source possible to extend the
life of the Microfilter.
To optimize long-term storage of the Microfilter, follow the below steps over a sink
with the Microfilter installed. Disinfecting the Microfilter thoroughly before long-
term storage helps prevent the growth of mold, mildew and bacteria.
1. Unscrew lower, flexible half of the bottle assembly.
2. Add 0.5 liters (500ml) of water to the lower half of bottle, then mix in one
drop of household bleach (without fragrance or dyes).
NOTE: Handle bleach carefully because it can stain or discolor clothing.
3. Reassemble bottle halves and ensure a snug fit.
4. Open the lid and filter the bleach water mixture into a sink by squeezing
the lower, flexible half of the bottle.
5. When unable to filter any more of the bleach water mixture, turn the bottle
upright, remove the lower half of bottle, and empty any remaining bleach
water mixture into the sink.
If you find that you’re consistently not getting the typically fast flow rate of
the Microfilter, follow this quick and easy Flow Rate Recovery procedure. This
procedure, along with the Long Term Storage and Disinfection procedure, will
also help increase the usable life of the Microfilter.
1. With the Microfilter installed, remove and fill the lower flexible half with
cleanest available water.
2. Close and secure bottle completely.
3. Turn the bottle on its side.
4. Shake the bottle rapidly, end to end, for 5 seconds.
l
This dislodges fine particulates stuck in the Microfilter, helping restore
flow rate.
5. Dispose of the shaken water.
6. Resume filtering water.

Microfilter
Handle Microfilter carefully because a damaged filter cannot prevent
exposure to harmful microorganisms. Test filter for damage if dropped
(see System Integrity Test). If filter is damaged, discontinue use and
replace cartridge. Use of a damaged Microfilter can expose you to harmful
microorganisms and increase your risk of gastrointestinal illness.
Never use a dishwasher or microwave to disinfect the Microfilter, as the
high heat will damage or melt Microfilter components. Use of a damaged
Microfilter can expose you to harmful microorganisms and increase your
risk of gastrointestinal illness.

3. Clear any debris from the threaded and sealing surfaces using a clean
cloth or clean water.
4. Insert the top, threaded part of the Microfilter into the threaded
underside of the drink spout, turning the Microfilter clockwise until
the unit cannot be threaded any further.
If Microfilter is removed from the bottle, the bottle must be disinfected
before use without the Microfilter. Not disinfecting the bottle can expose
you to harmful microorganism and increase your risk of gastrointestinal
illness. See instructions on Long Term Storage and Disinfection.
WARNING
3. While holding the water-filled lower
half of the bottle upright, reassemble
the bottle by threading the top half
(with the Microfilter installed) onto
the lower half until it stops. Ensure
the halves are securely joined for a
complete seal.
5. When water level inside bottle is low, or no more water can be filtered,
repeat steps 1 through 4.
3
When filtering water, take care to avoid cross-contaminating the drink spout
with dirty or unfiltered water. If Microfilter is removed from the bottle, the
bottle must be disinfected before use without the Microfilter. See instructions
on Long Term Storage and Disinfection.
WARNING
6. Rinse all parts off with clean water, then air or towel dry.
l
Water bottle parts, excluding the Microfilter, are dishwasher safe.
NOTE: it is not necessary for the inside of the Microfilter to dry completely, as
the bleach in the solution will prevent the growth of harmful microorganisms
and biofilm. However, a dry filter helps protect against damage from drops or
freezing.
To dry the Microfilter completely after disinfection:
l
Remove Microfilter from drink spout and air dry at room temperature for at
least 1 week.
l
To avoid cross-contamination or damage to the internal fibers of the
Microfilter, install Cleanside Cover over the threaded end of the Microfilter.

Never allow Microfilter to freeze or drop because these will permanently
damage the internal fibers of the Microfilter. If the Microfilter has been
exposed to freezing temperatures or dropped, test the Microfilter for
damage (see System Integrity Test). Use of a damaged
Microfilter can expose you to harmful microorganisms
and increase your risk of gastrointestinal illness.
4. To filter water, open the top cap
and drink from the drink spout.
Squeeze the flexible lower por-
tion of the bottle to increase
water flow rate.
Alternatively, filtered water can
be squeezed into other bottles or
containers.
