Maintenance Features:

Safety Precautions:

  • Always unplug the AC power cord before servicing.
  • Use appropriate high voltage meters.
  • Do not spray chemicals on the receiver.
  • Clean electrical contacts with a 10% Acetone and 90% isopropyl alcohol mixture (flammable).
  • Do not defeat B+ voltage interlocks.
  • Ensure all solid-state device heat sinks are correctly installed.
  • Connect test receiver ground lead to chassis ground first, remove last.
  • Use specified test fixtures.

Servicing Precautions:

  • Electrostatically Sensitive (ES) Devices: Use techniques to reduce static electricity damage, such as wearing a wrist strap, working on a conductive surface, and storing ES devices in conductive containers.
  • General Soldering Guidelines: Use a grounded-tip, low-wattage soldering iron. Avoid excessive heat. Clean contacts with a wire-bristle brush.
  • IC Removal/Replacement: Carefully remove damaged copper pattern, clean soldered areas, and insert replacement IC.
  • "Small-Signal" Discrete Transistor Removal/Replacement: Clip leads, bend into "U" shape, connect replacement leads, crimp, and solder.
  • Power Output, Transistor Device Removal/Replacement: Heat and remove solder, remove heat sink, replace transistor, solder leads, and re-install heat sink.
  • Diode Removal/Replacement: Clip leads, bend remaining leads, wrap new diode leads, crimp, and solder, observing polarity.
  • Fuse and Conventional Resistor Removal/Replacement: Clip leads, crimp replacement component, and solder, maintaining original spacing.
  • Circuit Board Foil Repair:
    • At IC Connections: Remove damaged copper, scratch away solder resist, bend jumper wire, crimp around IC pin, solder, and route along the pattern.
    • At Other Connections: Remove damaged copper, trace pattern break, connect insulated 20-gauge jumper wire between nearest components, crimp, and solder. Ensure jumper wire does not touch components or sharp edges.

Software Upgrade:

  • Use the "Mstar ISP Utility" program.
  • Connect the computer to the TV, set parameters (Port Type, Speed, Base Addr, SPI Setting, etc.), and perform "Auto Detect" or "Connect".
  • Load the download file (MST_V59.bin) by clicking "Read".
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the upgrade process.
